What if other adaptations got the "hobbit" treatment?

I love Cherryh's SF, but it's usually so psychologically convoluted, I can see it becoming garbage quite easily.

That's also why something like the Foreigner books would do better broken up into multiple movies or a series of some kind- that would allow those responsible to have a chance at doing justice to the underlying stories.

A single movie just doesn't have the time.
Lots of short stories are successfully translated into movies.
And more aren't!

One of Sci-fi's greatest short-stories is Isaac Asimov's "Nightfall", later expanded to novel length with Robert Silverberg's help.

It has the misfortune of having been made into not one but TWO terrible movies.

On a certain level, Pitch Black with Vin Diesel does a much better job of handling some of the issues raised in Asimov's story than do the movies made directly from it.

Well you lost me there, the animation adaption of "The Hobbit" and "The Lord of the Rings" was passable, but patently bad. And with the modern fascination with Japanime, I would fear we would end up with "Dragon Ball Z" meets "Star Wars: The Clone Wars"...

That is a perfectly valid fear. I'm just worried about the logistics of such a film or series. Unlike Game of Thrones The Wheel of Time has a lot of magic going which could get hokey fast, plus having to find a derth of actors over 6 and a half feet might be tough too.

Oh gods. Like that series isn't long enough. I quit reading it because it felt like the same damned thing over and over. Will Bren EVER get enough sleep? ;)
