Cast the Jem and the Holograms Movie

Dude, you know we are talking about the 80s TV show Jem and the Holograms, right? What plot, character, thought, or diction are you talking about? It's a movie, based on a TV show that wasn't very good to start. Michael Bay could only improve on what I imagine is going to be a craptastic script. He will put hot girls, massive FX, and explosions. That right there is the best possible thing that could happen to this movie.
All those movies made a lot of money. Studios count on your nostalgia to scam you out of your movie for terrible movies. I mean, seriously, it's Jem, what other reason do you think there is to make this movie? Because it was such a great TV show? Have you actually gone back and watched any of those shows you used to watch as a child? They are terrible.

Yes, I do.
You know what, I never watched that one, though.
However, regardless of whatever the source material, if you don't have a story, you don't have a story. Without that, nothing else matters.
Those movies may have made money, but that doesn't change their suckage, or that these two "writers" in particular seem to enjoy smearing their collective fecal matter over other people's fond childhood memories.
Yes, I have watched those shows I watched as a kid. Recently. Some were good. Some weren't. Again, I never saw "JEM" because I wasn't a girl, or into that era of hair band.

I watched Jem as a kid, and I'm not a girl.

Jem is and will always be one of the most unique cartoon experiences ever in production. A semi-serious take on the music industry, the characters never did do anything terribly "goofy" - they were played as real people in the real world with 'real' issues (coming-of-age, romance, managing a career/second life, being guardian of an orphanage for starters). The song bits were unique to any other cartoon I've ever seen.

That said, I read the bare plot synopsis and this movie doesn't look it's going to be _ANY_thing like the cartoon. So, either I don't give them my money and the movie may end up a flop (and then they won't try again), or I give them my money and the movie may end a flop, and I wasted my money. :/

What if the source material had no tory?

Nostalgia shouldn't be n excuse for not remaking a movie, TV show, whatever.

So why do you care who takes part in making this particular movie?

It is possible to remake, reboot, or restart a series while still being respectful to the Original. Transformers:Beastwars not only did that, but massively improved the previous storyline. K&O did not do this. They took TF and JJA Trek and essentially said "Watch us bukake all over your pet franchises. We're having fun doing it. Wheee. Hah-haa. You can't do anything about it because we're the school bullies and we have the hollywood connections." The only person to do more to ruin and denigrate people's fondness for an existing franchise would arguably be Lucas, for the Prequels and Krystal Skull-f*ck.

At this point, I don't want to see Bay, Kurtzman, or Orci continue to have work/careers in hollywood.

I would watch a JEM movie to see if it was good. No nostalgia required. If any of those three is involved, the chances of it being good drop to Virtual 0 (so nearly non-existent as to make debate about it moot or academic).

Really? I didn't like Beastwars. Maybe it's because I didn't bother watching it from the start, but none of the episodes I did see were any good. Maybe you could explain to me why these robots took the shapes of animal.

Why? That seems like a petty thing to wish for. These guys have made a lot of money for a lot of people. They have put a lot of people to work on these movies. They've helped start careers for some of those people.

Maybe in your opinion, and as entitled as you are to it, it is still just your opinion. Now, you can debate it all you want, but it's still just an opinion. In my opinion, a movie about Jem and the Holograms is the perfect movie for Michael Bay to make. Big budget FX, explosions, and a group of hot girls. That's pure Michael Bay territory right here.

BeastWars: The Maximals and Predicons (descendants of Autobots and Decepticons) go through a hyperspace warp and end up on a primitive planet with no existing civilization (though there are signs that something visited). The planet is so rich in energon that it is dangerous. With no vehicles to copy, the disguise protocol works with animal forms. the Beast Modes created protect the inter cybertronian from being ravaged by Energon, and can effect limited repairs from both energon surges and battle. The new Megatron has one agenda. His security officer Tarantulas had his own secret agenda. Most new recruits to either side came from Maximal Protoforms (blank slates). Whenever a statis pod came down from orbit, it was a race to try to capture/save the protoform inside. If the Predicons got it first, they would corrupt it into a new Predicon. Only one Predicon came close to breaking the corruption. Some other characters arrived later who also had their own agendas.

That's the spoiler free version, much of which would be available from Episode 1. Give it a try--it's up on netflix instant viewing.

Does it seem petty? Maybe. But then, those same people who got work and made money, etc could have done the same with an actual Good movie.
Name one good Michael Bay movie. Go on. Use IMDB if you want.
Same with K&O team.

Jerry Bruckheimer is arguably an extremely effective and successful producer. To date, he has produced 1 good movie (PotC:CotBP), 2 OK movies, and about 55 POS movies. Should we let his 3 successes outweigh his dominant failure record? Or should we suggest that he learn to discern a good script from a bad. Eh, why bother--he'll make money either way. All he has to do is keep shoveling dog-food for the masses and take their $.

Meh... just doesn't do it for me. I saw some episodes, and to be honest, I could rarely make it through an entire episode. Most of the time I got bored with the show and just changed the channel. Maybe it was the animation that I just didn't like. Who knows. In any case, I found it bleh.

Does it seem petty?
Yes, definitely.

Really? Okay, I want you to think about how many movies are produced each year. Out of all those movies, how many of them would you consider to be good? How many positions are available in each of those movies? How many people can actually be hired to fill those positions?

Name one bad one. I guarantee that any movie to identify as not being good, there will be someone else who thinks the movie is good. Again, while you're entitled to your opinion, it's just that, your opinion.

You're going to have to write out the titles of those two movies you believe are good. I have no clue what PotC:CotBP is.

So let me ask you this: What, in your opinion, makes a good movie? Give me an example of a good movie, and why you think it's a good movie.

I want a Jem and the Holograms movie starring the woman who sang Jem, ie Britta Philips of Luna, Dean and Britta, etc. Dean Wareham would be in it, too, obviously. Maybe Kim Gordon of Sonic Youth could have a small part or cameo. I wonder what Luscious Jackson is up to these days...

A Jem movie all about boozy, world-weary former shoe-gazer rock superstars would be perfect... for me and maybe a dozen other people.

It would join the long list of films I'd love to see and will never be made. Like Wes Anderson's Barbarella, with the all-Stereolab soundtrack, and Jodorowsky's Dune.

OK, so you didn't like that one. Did you like ReBoot (the cartoon)? Same studio.

I don't analyze industry jobs: I look at the quality of the result.
The primary impediment to quality in most movies is Writing. Sometimes it's basic concept. But more often writing.
If anything, I'd like to expand hollywood's staff to include a new category at each studio: The "NO" men. they have enough "Yes Men" kissing posterior. The No men are charged with saying "NO" to stupid ideas, or bad concepts, and are answerable only to the head of studio. George Lucas was in desperate need of a NO person.

Name one bad one. I guarantee that any movie to identify as not being good, there will be someone else who thinks the movie is good. Again, while you're entitled to your opinion, it's just that, your opinion.
Bad Boys, Armageddon, The Rock, Transformers 1, 2, 3, Pearl Harbor, (didn't see Bad Boys 2 or The Island).

Is he? Why?
Explained in the immediately following sentence.

You're going to have to write out the titles of those two movies you believe are good. I have no clue what PotC:CotBP is.
Pirates of the Caribean: Curse of the Black Pearl.
Crimson Tide wasn't bad (for a retelling of the Caine Mutiny), and there was another movie he was involved with that wasn't horrible, but the title escapes me. The Original CSI show (Las Vegas) was a good show (until about season 9 or so)

So let me ask you this: What, in your opinion, makes a good movie? Give me an example of a good movie, and why you think it's a good movie.
A good movie is one which entertains, usually character or story-driven. As with all theater, referring to Aristotle's Principles is a good framework.
Lionheart (Eric Stoltz, not VanDummie)
