D&D 5E [Merged] D&D Next/5E Release Schedule Threads

2e & 3e were both staggered releases iirc. And one edition was intended to be staggered but player demand prior to release meant that it was changed to "all at once", though I can't remember if that was 3.5 or 4.

Only 6 dice in the box set is an interesting choice, they're leaving out the tens d10, does 5e make even less use of d% than previous editions? Sure, d% is mostly a roll that DMs make and you can do it with just a single d10, just seems odd to exclude it. I hope Kobold Press isn't done making Pathfinder stuff now that they're doing 5e adventures.
They're selling a boxed set for $20, in 2014. For comparison, the very first white box was $10.00 in 1974, which would be a shade over $48 today. They must have pinched every penny they could find to hit that price point, and the tens die is certainly not essential.

Anyway, percentile dice are typically used by DMs rolling for treasure or monster encounters, or high-level PCs casting spells like teleport. With a prefab adventure and characters that top out at level 5, there probably isn't any need for them.

Sweet! I for one am really excited. The art looks really good and I like the nice clean look of the lettering. I just hope the inside text is closer to 3E than 4E in terms of words/page, but I'm guessing that won't be the case.

Anyhow, I just pre-ordered the starter set, Holy Trinity, and the first adventure and can't wait!

As for the price, for those who haven't pre-ordered from Amazon before, not that the price sometimes fluctuates. It might be 20% now, but at some point between now and the release date it could go to 30-40%. If you pre-order, you get the best price between now and then.

Finally, with regards to the PHB coming out a couple months before the MM, I assume that with the starter set and Tyranny adventures, they figure we'll have our hands full. On the other hand, they must know that there will be tons of veterans who want to get going with their own adventures right away, so it remains to be seen how prohibitive not having the MM and DMG will be.

Also, I don't know if anyone mentioned this yet, but it looks like magic items--or at least most ("hundreds")--are back in the DMG. Where they belong.

we at paradigm concepts looked into pricing for box sets....

trust me, they are making almost nothing on the new into box.. heck, at 20 bucks they may be simply braking even...

Well, that was fun

I'm going to merge this one with the Amazon thread; they both have the same information, and it'll be easier for folks to follow along.

never mind the fact that players will reverse engineer the monsters in the box set and write a guide to tweak the playtest monsters within a week of release :p

I think I like the starter set box art most of all. Monster Manual is also excellent. I'm less enthused about the PHB, seems a bit dark and I can't tell what's going on. DMG is fine.
