D&D 5E The Flumpf Is Back

Yeah, this must be the same kind of humor that makes the Pathfinder goblins funny, because I do not get it. Am generally unimpressed when someone thinks a meme is clever enough to cost money.

Wasn't there a Dragon article or personal anecdote where one of the 3e team had a setting where the nobility had flumphs tied to strings and took them out in public like balloons?

One of the attitudes I've hated in the more recent products of the game was that every "monster" had to be deadly serious, something to fight at a certain level for 5 rounds and somehow had to make sense. This killed off creativity and many fun things about the game. Having the Flumph back is a sign that it won't be completely like that recent trend anymore.

I agree. I definitely get the sense that they're bringing back:

  1. Monsters don't have to be things you fight
  2. Monsters can be silly
  3. Monsters can be weird and mysterious and... well, "Gygaxian."
