Peeking inside Sachiko sees a mostly empty building. There are just a few scattered bits of cloth.

Meanwhile as Fastus pokes through the remains in the fire pit he determines that it was lit within the past day or so and that there is about a dozen goblin skeletons. He also determines that the ashes are burnt goblins. In effect they were cremated.

Map is here. Not tactical at the moment, just for reference for now.

Jariah Taliaferro, Human Female

Jakira followed the blacksmith to the pit and peered at the activity in a rather disappointed state of mind, “No earrrs ta eat and no bounty,” he grumbled.

Jariah remained where she was and suggested, “Maybe those were just the dead from an accident. We are talking about goblins that allegedly had fireworks and the that doesn't appear big enough to hold a full tribe.”

No worrying about being quiet she calls out so they all can here, “If we are going to spread out and search, might I suggest sticking mostly together into two groups instead of everyone going every which way. If the goblins were driven out, there could be something worse hiding in and around here yet.”

Wireth Norin, half-orc falconer

Wireth nods agreement to Jariah.

"Suldrel and I can look after his sister," he offers, catching the winter elf's gaze to confirm. The half-orc points to his bird and says, "If Nairo calls out, trouble's coming. Jariah, he'll probably listen to you if there's need otherwise."

After making sure Sudrel is with him, Wireth enters the building, trying to catch up to the smaller human.

UPDATED MAP

Jariah remained where she was and suggested, “Maybe those were just the dead from an accident. We are talking about goblins that allegedly had fireworks and the that doesn't appear big enough to hold a full tribe.”
"About a dozen of them," reported Fastus. And, "Is that how they do it, usually?" He looked at his soles with obvious distaste, grumbling: "I got goblin all over my boots now..."

"Unless it's the plague thing?" he mentionned when Jariah suggested something worse possibly hiding in the village. That would fit with the funeral pyre and the broken-from-the-inside gate, right?

After making sure Sudrel is with him, Wireth enters the building, trying to catch up to the smaller human.
"Good hunting!" he wished them <Spamming Guidance on all three of them, +1 to their next roll>"So we're going the other way right?" And the young blacksmith did just that, first traipsing closer to that mysterious pond and having a look around the corner of the far-east building while he's at it too.

Updated Map.

OOC: Using Knowledge Local to find out if the goblins usually cremate their dead = 15. Do they, TS?

Also, does he see anything new re the pond from here? (Say giant toads lying in wait in its depths or something? :)) And what's all that crumbly-building stuff south-east of him?

"No goblins in here," Sachiko reports when Wireth pokes his head in. She goes out onto the walkway and says, "I definitely think it's a plague. Goblin plague. It probably happens all the time to these guys. They live in these tiny houses all packed together, and they have terrible hygiene and...yeah. Lets find the fireworks and see if there's any ears left worth taking and then we'll just call it a day. Good job, plague!"

Elsbeth

As Elsbeth wandered towards the pond with Fastus, she contemplated what she had seen and been told thus far. The gate was broken from the inside, there is evidence of dead, burned goblins, and there is nothing else alive here that the group has discovered.

"I do not believe it was a plague. My opinion is that some other creature killed these goblins. I have no idea why they would have been burned. If they built a large bonfire to summon some sort of creaure, possibly a devil, and it got loose, then it may have killed them all and simply expanded the size of the fire to burn the bodies of the goblins that were standing around it. I am probably wrong in my hypothesis but we should all be on guard just in case."

As she explored the pond with Fastus, she mentally ran through the meager list of spells she knew and found them to be inadequate against anything stronger than they were.

Perception check to see if there is anything of interest in or near the pond = 1d20+5=14

So we currently have Sachiko, Suldrel and Wireth checking out the buildings on the west side; Fastus and Elsbeth are checking out the pond; Jariah and Jakira are nearby; Nairo is keeping watch from the palisade near where the gate was.

As far as Fastus can recall goblins do not usually burn their dead.
Glancing at the pool there doesn't appear to be anything menacing hiding in the pool.
Glancing around the corner it looks like one of the buildings burned.
Peering into the pool Elsbeth makes out some bones near the small pier.
Suldrel listens at the door but hears nothing.

"I hear nothing," says Suldrel to Wireth, moving back out of the half-orc's space. "I believe we may proceed." Nevertheless the elf readies his spear.
