Upon further consideration, I'm leaning toward the Con x 3 option. After all, this is the same feat that's designed for fighters and barbarians, and otherwise it would be pretty terrible for barbarians.

Normally to regain hit points (without the durable feat) you roll your hit die + con modifier. The durable feat enables you to roll normally, but if the total falls under your con modifier x2 then you take the doubled con modifier result instead.

Example:

In the case of a Wizard with 20 con a d6+5 is rolled. If the total is under 10 (+5 con modifier x2=10) then the Wizard regains 10 hit points instead.

So...

rolls d6, adds 5. On a roll of 5-6 on a d6 the total will equal 10 or 11 hit points regained respectively. Anything lower simply counts as 10 hit points regained.

So the answer to the poll is yes, but it could be 11 hit points too! It's worth the 16.6% chance to roll a 6 on a d6 and regain 11 hit points instead.

For those who think this rule is too munchkiny, consider that it would take a lot of raising constitution scores to get a con of 20. Also consider that if feats are being used attributes aren't raised in the same way.

The "roll" here is the physical die. Why wouldn't Durable be the same?

Thaumaturge.

If I go with good old 3e rules forum work...then to me this is how the language reads. The roll is the die not the total, so it would be 15 hp overall.

That said, I think the spirit of the rule is the total in this case, so minimum 10. But it could have been written better.

How is rerolling any Hit Die 5 and under bad? Hit Dice are spent individually, not as a whole. You spend one Hit Die then decide if you want to spend another, and then another, until you are done.

The spirit of the rule, as well as the reading certainly indicate a total. The new rules are definitely loosely written (although that's not necessarily a bad thing).
