If so, I think the intent of the feat is to let the character load faster, not to let her load without using her hands.

If that's the intent of the feat, it's pretty weak compared to the others. It's only useful for people using a hand crossbow and firing it twice. Or for a class using primarily crossbows and gaining the extra attack feature.

I think the intent is to make using an off-hand crossbow a viable option. It still requires the use of a bonus action, so it doesn't break the economy of actions. It's certainly no more powerful than two-weapon fighting.

Nope. This for my tastes sounds totally ludicrous.

Fine for you to house rule that way, but just add it to your ever growing list of them.

Under ammunition, drawing the ammunition from a quiver, case, or other container is part of the attack.

So if you only use one hand to attack with the weapon, then you reload the weapon with the same hand as part of attacking with it.

That quote refers to the time taken, not the hands used. and to draw the ammunition, not to load a crossbow.

If what you said before is true that "the game never sets how you reload a weapon in the first place." then yours is a house rule as well.

I think the dual wielding crossbows and reloading is up to the DM. (intentionally probably)

For what its worth, I allow it in my current game with a players gnome rogue.

I asked my player how the character does it and he told me the crossbow has metal rings at the bottom of the handle that he loops a finger through and uses the other fingers to load the hand crossbow. I thought "good enough" and he's happy playing a crossbow-slinger rogue.

I think to many people give the designers to much credit for leaving things vague intentionally, I think it is just a sad excuse for not designing a solid mechanically balanced game. People should not be praised for doing no work, leaving things vague is just a side effect of them not caring about the math and balance.

While I agree that games should be well balanced and have a solid mathematical foundation, I think this particular instance is a good example of leaving the decision up to the game table.

I only wish there was more encouragement in the books for the dm and players to have these discussions. As well as examples for a dm to arbitrate this kind of thing.

That his explanation left me with even more questions.
A character without the feat Crossbow Expert, you can:
1 Using a crossbow in one hand and a shield in the other?
2 It can recharge the beast with one hand, or need both hands?

Already a character with the feat Crossbow Expert, you can:
3 Shoot with Bous action not charged with a crossbow? (In feat he speaks clearly: "When you use the Attack action and attack with a onehanded
weapon, you can use the bonus action to attack with a loaded crossbow hand you are holding.)
4 It can recharge the beast with one hand, or need both hands?
5-He can use a hand crossbow in each hand? How would reload them?

In my opnion the Duel Wielder feat would not help in this particular case, because it serves to use light weapons are not in two weapon fighting.

1. No. Two-Weapon Fighting only work with melee weapons.
2. Yes.
3. Yes.
4. Yes.
