I am not. My point is that 1-2 shields will make up the difference. Blur would probably do an even better job, if you get time.

Yeah I found blur and protection from evil both pretty useful depending on the enemy. Haste was probably the best general defensive and offensive option. Too many concentration spells - hard to know which one to cast

Assuming you are actually playing this, I think that levels 10-14 are going to be a challenge
Additionally, you need to find out if you are going to make it to level 20. I've read of many campaigns that finished with the PCs levels 10 to 14. If you take a multiclass solely for endgame, and don't get that endgame, then all the challenge in earlier levels was for nothing.

The way classes are heavily frontloaded in 5e, it is actually extremely effective to multiclass a surprising number of combinations. And yes, I've never had a campaign go beyond 10th that started at 1st. The longest running game was in 2nd edition that ran for 5 years and ended at 7th-8th level.

Plus, if you intend to be a front line warrior you might need to spend an ability score increase on Con or the Toughness feat to catch up in hit points after all of those d6s.

I guess, when you are an abjurer, hp is not really a problem.

I thought about when would be the best level to leave the fighter path and become a wizard... I found out, that there are many opportunities to multiclass. Fighter 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8 all make sense. Then again at level 11.

Fighter 2 and 4 are one of the hardest level to recommend, but the earlier you opt out of fighter, the earlier you get fireball. Action surge on level 2 allows for a big nova.

I would go level 1 wizard. Starting off at level 1 sucks, I hope your game doesn't. Then multi to fighter, go to level 3 fighter, and take Eldritch knight. At level 5 (being a 1/3 wizard fighter) take your 2nd level of wizard. Then power through 3 more levels of fighter (2/6 wizard/fighter gives you a great point... I just wish there were prestige classes. From that point I would go just wizard.

end game (well to be honest I consider 13th level end game most times but I'll pretend I play to 20) would be 14/6 witch is a 17th level caster.

it seems the most playable throught the levels though... I did watch a really great multi class at the early point in the game when a friend played a Bard (valor) 7/Paladin 4 that played like the best fighter/mage I've seen in years...

here is my build. I went level 1 fighter for the Armor, weapons, and hit points. I then went to 5 levels of Wizard to get fireball and some of the important utility spells quickly such as blur. From there I finish off fighter to level 7, and then go Wizard the rest of the way.

Decide what's the highest spell casting ability you want and what feats you need.

I figured I need Toughness, warcaster, and Elemental Adept.

The build goes like this.

Levels 1-10 - I have one weapon attack and spells with bonus action attacks like flaming sphere and melf's meteor. That gives me two attacks per round. This is equal to a fighter of the same level.
Levels 11-20. I have two weapon attacks and a bonus action spell attack. This is equal to a fighter of the same level. At higher levels you will be casting more powerful spells.
I can switch to cantrip and weapon attack if I need to.

If you're optimizing, you have to start as a Fighter. You get better equipment, any skills can be chosen through background, and (most importantly), proficiency in CON saves. You could easily lose concentration spells without the proficiency bonus.

I'm not so sure. It depends upon the class, and what you really have in mind for the character. I see most classes getting some kind of bonus every level. IMHO, I have a hard time multiclassing unless I have a clear build in mind.
