Artificer. The eberron download doesn't cut it. Few of the abilities are anything I'd actually use. Its definitely not what I was hoping for to convert my old 4e artificer.

Hmm.... I can burn a 3rd level slot to create this invisibility potion! Tadaaa! Or I can just cast invisibility on you instead with a 2nd level slot....
Hey guys! Look! I can boost somebody's weapon to +1! Oh.... you already have a +1 weapon? Oh... ok. Nevermind then. Actually the buffing the armor part should be pretty useful. But the point remains the same, you quickly outgrow any of the abilities usefulness.

I prefer they stop with 12 base classes, and rather create more subclasses.

I would like many more Cleric subclasses (Domains) because in general I like fantasy settings with large pantheons and significative differences between priests of competing faiths.

I would also like at least 2-3 more Rogue subclasses, because Thief and Assassin aren't satisfying enough for me to strongly represent con-mans, thugs, and Indiana Jones types.

And 1-2 more generic Sorcerer subclasses, so that you don't have to be either draconic or erratic.

I feel like that could be done with a feat, or possibly some sort of meta-magic option for Sorcerers. It doesn't feel like enough to base a whole class around.

Possibly as a subclass. So big for a feat.

A sorcerer could "charge up" to gain temporary sorcery point to apply a metamagic to their next spell.

A fighter could "line up his sights" or "search for an opening" and deal more damage on a shot or strike.

That's a Sneak Attack, so it would be a Rogue thing. Fighters are traditional combatants who engage directly, and do not fight in the manner described by that ability.

Note that a Rogue takes up to four times longer to make a single attack as a Fighter does.

Nope.

Sneak attack is exploiting openings and distractions. Rogues do this because they can't win fighting fair and focus on cheating. Fighters can fight and thus don't train to cheat.

This would be controlling one's breath and predicting the targets movements before putting a crossbow bolt in an orc chief's eye. This is what a fighter or ranger would do. Or staring at an ogre to see he favors his left side and lags on overhead strikes.

Sniping and counter attacks.

Actually, sneak attack is either, or both, or however else you want to describe it. The mechanics can easily work with multiple flavor descriptions.

And BTW, it's not "cheating." Any and every trained fighter takes advantage of openings or distractions. That's part of fighting. Some fighters may eschew "dirty tricks," but striking when your opponent looks away or shifts his back hand out of line don't qualify.

Everyone cheats
Sneak attack is "Cheating Specialization"

Sneak Attack is mastery of attacking openings and hitting distracted enemies.

I want psionics. I'd be happy with them working as sub-classes for sorcerer and wizard. Hopefully, also one for fighter (psychic warrior) and I would also like to see a soulknife, maybe as a sub-class for monk or rogue?

I know we are never going to get it, but I loved the 3.5 Binder class. Maybe it could work as a warlock sub-class in which you can change some of your abilities each day, thematically binding your soul to different entities.

I'm quite happy over-all with the classes that exist. I would like a more generic sorcerer sub-class that isn't linked to dragons.

EDIT: My favorite character in the past was a gnome bard/shadowcaster that I played in 3.5. There is no shadow caster in 5e, but I feel we don't really need it. I was able to re-create him him as a gnome with the entertainer background and the warlock class with a fey pact (a pact with a shadar-kai or other fey from the realm of shadows). The warlock has all kinds of powers dealing with darkness and if you can refluff stuff like the eldritch blast into casting pure shadow, it fits perfectly.
