D&D 5E [D&D 5E] Pirates of the Spheres: Captain's Privilege (Recruiting)

I'd prefer if we have been a crew for a while, although one or some of us might be new to the ship. I'd like to think that my dwarf is very fond of the ship and has some friendship (or good working relations) with at least one other crewmember.

I don't know if I can actually make this work, statswise, but what I'm aiming at tentatively is a warforged monk. Note that the 'monk' in this case is actually a pure mechanics thing. He's not monkly in the least, but the monk gives abilities and mechanical support that fit the flavor I want.

Going elemental monk, with the special attacks representing technological weapons built into his body.

The trouble of course is that warforged have bonuses to Strength and Con, and Monks need to focus pretty hard on Dex and Wis. :)

Sooooooooo...not sure yet. I'd like to make this work, but the potential for suckage is high. If it doesn't work I'll probably just go straight up fighter, or MAYBE barbarian? Not sure.

Eldrichknight with the tavern brawler feat would perhaps work for your concept (and have the benefit of armor), but you'd need to wait 1 level for warforged. If you go straight fighter, you could have splint mail + shield, for an AC of 19. As a magic item, the sentinel shield is pretty sweet.

A barbarian warforged would also be cool. Combined with a rogue, having a character good at shoving such as a barbarian would be very effective in combat!

I was kind of hoping to avoid needing armor... I liked the armored hide thing.

That said, a warforged doesn't eat, doesn't excrete, doesn't sleep...they never have to remove their armor, really. So there's that.

So far my stabs at very very bare bones sketches show I can squeeze AC 15 out of a barbie or monk. That can pop up a bit with the aid of a magic item, potentially. Still a bit thin, but perhaps not catastrophically. At the next level I can throw in a stat raise that will boost it a bit.

The barbie can of course use a shield, so that's good. The fighter build can most likely have the best armor of them all though. And the EK can use 'spells' for the techno-magic weapons systems.

So it's looking better and better.

Yeah, I think the warforged pretty much scream for armor. It fits the whole living construct concept. Seriously, if you were making a living construct, why in the world wouldn't you just wrap it up in armored plating? If you went the fighter route, you could pick magical plate armor as your magic item, for a very respectable 22 AC (18 armor, 2 shield, 2 racial, 1 magical).
With AC like that, you'll get all your enemies to call you "Mr. Monk", if that's what you want ;-)
Oh, and if you're willing to wait 1 level for your techno-magic weapons, you could go Barbarian 1/fighter 2 for those rages (and bonus to str checks for shoving!), and a few extra HP...

Oh, and here's an interesting plot hook for your character Shayuri : we could have found your character floating in space, stuck there in orbit around an ancient wrecked ship. This could open the door to your character being quite ancient...
Just an idea ;-)

Much grooviness has ensued recently I see. :)

I'll be going over characters more in-depth this weekend. The length of time this group has been together is up to you guys for the most part. You're only level 3, however, so actual adventuring hijinks have only taken place over the last 3 to 6 months or so.

Hee hee!

Hilariously, that is -exactly- what I had in mind. :)

If there is a tech-savvy person on the crew, perhaps that person fixed me up and restored my functions.
