MikeMearls Quick note about the storm sorcerer in the Sword Coast Adventurers Guide - bonus spells were removed based on playtest feedback.
MikeMearls Which might sound weird, because people really liked that sorcerer and the bonus spells. However, implementing feedback is never that simple
MikeMearls The original sorcerer is rated very well without bonus spells. Having sorcerous origins with them would make PHB ones look weaker.
MikeMearls The class didn't need the buff, and while people like the idea of the bonus spells, they don't fit with the game's overall structure.
MikeMearls You can expect that kind of revision as UA material enters the environment - we sometimes try stuff in UA to get a sense of future paths.

Interesting. Good to know they're listening, even if it takes them, what, five and a half months to comment about it?

Though since the Favored Soul wasn't mentioned, it sounds likely that it still has the bonus spells. Not sure how I feel about that. On the one hand, it's part of the concept; on the other, we still have the class getting a "buff," a pretty major one since it's now cross-class bonus spells that can include healing. I dunno, maybe I'm just stumbling over the "the class didn't need the buff" statement, when it seems like the FS got no *less* buff than the subclass that now won't get bonus spells.

That's because it's still a playtest and not a "real" class. I'm pretty sure that if it ever gets released as a "real" class... it either won't have bonus domain spells, or the other sub-class features will be so light/ribbonish that the domain spells are essentially their sub-class features.

But they have absolutely reason to try and balance a playtest class for non-playtest use, because they aren't meant to be balanced with the "real" game.

I had thought the Favored Soul was in the SCAG?

Am I the only person that finds it weird the Storm Sorc has innate lightning/thunder immunity, whereas the Draconic Bloodline has to spend sorcery points to get that immunity for only one hour???

Probably not the only one, no... but that doesn't mean that you are actually looking at the features in the right light. You can't just compare one against one, you have to look at the entire subclass vs. the entire other subclass.

Not that I am saying the two are perfectly balanced, but there is a lot more in the mix than just resistance to thunder and lighting all the time vs. resistance to lighting for one hour when you spend a sorcery point (while also getting a damage bonus) - such as the Draconic Resilience feature being more useful in more situations than basically any feature of the storm sorcerer subclass is.

Ah, yes. I meant resistance. My bad lol. I'm not a very 'know what's balanced' savvy fellow, I just find it odd, that's all.
