D&D 5E Treasure Ammunition Doubt

Hey Guys,Last game our DM rolled for treasure in a random table from the DMG. Problem was that we rolled for "Ammunition +2", but the table doesn't specify the number of arrows or bolts or whatever. We couldn't found any rule for it, so my DM made me roll 5d4 for a maximum of 20 pieces as houserule. My question is: there's any rule for that? One of us think of one piece of ammunition, but seems to me like too little for a treasure. Thanks for the help and sorry for the english.Regards,Arvin
When you find a +2 Battleaxe, do you ask "how many"?

It's one.

This is a new edition; getting ammunition in bundles is old-editionitis messing with you.

In relative power to other magic items, single ammunition should appear more frequently and more commonly in the table. But from a common sense perspective ammunition found should be random, unless it has a very specific purpose like an arrow of dragon slaying. That starts get into a similar domain of powerful one use magic items like scrolls.

While true, I usually include at least a half dozen pieces of magic ammo, unless it is really powerful such as an arrow of slaying.

Note that this is a choice on my part, not something that needs to be a rule.

I do. I need at lest 5d6 +2 Battle-axes as backups, so that I have Battle-axes to use since my Battle-axes keep getting stuck in the skulls of those who give me a single +1 arrow.

What is this? Treasure ... for ants? How can we be expected to adventure, when we are too busy hoarding our single +1 arrow?
:)

Much like your DM is free to hand out multiple battleaxes, she's free to hand out magic arrows in multiples too.

The only thing that's changed since previous editions is that ammunition is no longer an exception to the (unstated) rule that you find a single item at a time.

Just accept it or houserule it; and move on. Cheers!

But this is as it should be. Cowards use missile weapons. Real characters get up close and personal with the monsters they are about to vanquish, the better to see the darkness leaving the Orc's eyes as your mighty Axe cleaves him in twain.

Survivors learn how to do unto others before it can be done unto them.

My friend, the problem with your logic is that the +2 Battleaxe still works after you kill something with it. In the other hand, a single +2 arrow don't even last for a entire shooting round of a lvl 5 fighter. Even with the argument there is a consumable item, a potion of giant strength last for several turns, just for example. A set of 10-20 ammunitions will still be consumable, but useful for at least one combat.

Again, sorry for the english.

Regards,

Arvin

I can agree with the statement, since my fighter uses crossbow expert to get close and feel exactly that way ;)
