In the safety of the cave, Erevan finds a spot to rest, tucking his legs underneath him to meditate in the elven way. After several minutes have passed, his trance is suddenly disrupted by dreams, nightmares perhaps, and he mutters softly, tensing and jerking his head to the side as if startled. After a few minutes, he seems to calm down again and stays that way for the rest of his trance.
Until he awakes with a start, and an outcry of "Glabbagool!"
Embarrassed, the elf whispers an apology to any whom he might have woken, before gazing around the cave. There is... how could he describe what he knows to be there? A presence, benevolent, watching them, attempting to make contact.
Finding ancient racial memories within himself that he never knew he had, Erevan begins chanting old Elven words of arcane power, the fingers of his left hand going through motions they never had but certain they are correct, his other hand finding spell components from the pouch they had recovered from the drow outpost and scatters them around. The ancient spell is a calling, a summoning of spirits to guide an arcanist, a friend to trust and keep close.
The spirit comes forward, hesitant at first, but fully submitting to the magic now. With his words, Erevan focuses the entity; with the component, he gives it form and substance; with his gestures, he binds it to himself.
After an hour or so has passed, Erevan stops his spell. Letting out a sigh, the elf opens his eyes, looking for...
A slender feline form stands before him, completely black with a slightly purple sheen to its fur. Its eyes are milky white, reminding Erevan of jelly. The cat stares at him.
"Glabbagool?"
A rush of words and images comes into the elf's head, and for a moment he is disoriented. After several moments have passed, Erevan nods, sorting through the information his new familiar related to him by their mental connection. A smile appears on his face, and the elf hugs the cat, who clearly does not know what to do and just hangs in his arms.
"So glad you can come along now. Let's tell the others!"
Erevan gets up and moves back to the group, seeing if anyone is awake. "Guys, we need to move soon. The drow are on our tails."
