D&D 5E The Tortle Package Coming Soon...

Tortles seem decent. Only glanced at the other material, but Dangwaru looks like it could be fun to explore.

In terms of appropriate level, it says that PCs of 3rd level or lower will need to rest while exploring the temple, while PCs of 4th level or higher should be able to do the whole thing without any rests.

Faster than a dwarf seems odd.
It does a bit but whatever ...

AC and shell defense seem powerful.
Yeah. But it's flavorful.

Description seems fun.
Agreed. They really are anthropomorphic turtles.

And I like how they're not actually built to be ninjas. No Dex bonus. And their natural armor won't stack with Unarmored Defense. I'm actually interested in playing one myself, but I think I'd play something other than a shadow monk.

I'm trying to think of how one would ever need advantage on a Strength check when withdrawn into its shell.

Checks against being pushed or grappled?

I really like it. It's well designed for a strength based monk, which is rare. It's also a good race for a barbarian (can you imagine a Tortle Battlerager? SQUEE!). Overall, I'm digging it!

They make decent barbarians, rangers, and druids, both in terms of story and mechanics.

Although, I wager Crawford is going to have to devote an entire Sage Advice just to explain how the natural shell AC interacts with Dex (it doesn't), shields (it does), mage armor (it doesn't), unarmored defense (it doesn't), draconic scales (it doesn't) rings and cloaks of protection (it does) and armor (it doesn't). Its also a bit of a drawback as while they might have a superior AC at low levels which can never be taken away, it also means they never get the bonuses of magical armor (such as adamantine plate or glamoured leather).

I still would have preferred them be a 25 ft race, esp since they 15 ft in 2e...

So, what can those of you that have purchased this say about the race, its description and features without going into too-revealing detail (because that would obviously be bad and against forum policy)?
