Raven Elk, after sitting himself by the fire, does not partake of the morning ritual as he normally would. Instead, he spends the time memorizing every detail he can of the Dream-Vision. As he does this, he also begins to ponder its message.

GM: The group breaks camp in short order, making sure that the fire is completely extinguished. Taylar fastens his talisman to his belt and Raven Elk shakes from his reverie. Having only traveled 3 hours the previous day, it is estimated that another 7 hours will be needed to locate the desired location of the herbs.

After about 4 hours of travel, the party breaks for lunch, only having observed the normal flora and fauna of the area. Three more hours into mid afternoon brings no surprises, either. Once the field is located, it is obvious that something has gotten into the soft plants. Pigs have never really cared for this particular herb, and the deer only crop the occasional leaf or two. Every single plant in over 3/4 of the field has been cropped off at ground level, like someone had deliberately harvested it all with a knife, but any person understanding the use of the herb would never have clear cut the area. Plants would be taken at random to insure that the crop would reseed itself.

GM: The party has nothing more to do than wait it out to see if the culprits return. Waiting is not a strong suit of Vittero and Taylar, who decide to wander about and search the area, but neither goes to far.

True to form late in the afternoon, a group of deep green cutter beetles the size of a man's head come marching directly toward the remaining herbs.

OOC: Sequencing needs to be determined. 1d100. Post results in LINE.

Since his last rush into battle left him with a dizzy head, Taylar intends to try a new tactic on his turn. He will look around for any stones on the ground to throw at the beetles, hopefully knocking them over or causing them to show any defensive measure like the carrion beetles did. If any draw near to the group he will switch to his club and swing as he did before, to knock them away.

GM: As with the beetles previously encountered, these 10 currently seem oblivious to their surroundings and completely focused on the herbs. The party is currently spaced around the remaining herbs to strategically cover any approach. The beetles happen to have approached from Raven Elk's direction. They are approximately 5 paces from him and moving closer. Adisakti is 5 paces to Raven Elk's right and about 8 paces from the approaching beetles. Vittero is 5 paces to Raven Elk's left and about 8 paces from the approaching beetles. Taylar is 5 paces further from Vittero, and Maka is 5 paces further from Adi.

Not being around for the first encounter Adi keeps an eye on the beetles but asks Raven. So how did you best the last set of creepy crawlies?

Raven Elk considers his reply as he watches the beetles approach. Trying at a bit of flippancy, or at least the best he can offer, he answers Adi:

"Flip 'em over and bludgeon them for all you've got, my friend. It worked with the last ones.". He then gives his smirky smile that could be either humorous or sarcastic. Always hard to tell with Raven Elk.
He could have left it at that, but then he can't help but add an extra morsel of "scholarly" info, killing any chance at humor, "Of course, like people, many beetles are very different. These could be susceptible to piercing or slashing.". He then looks at Adi and shrugs.

Raven Elk then waits for the first of the beetles to approach in order to flip one over and then "punch" it with the butt end of his spear.

GM: At the sound of the voices, the beetles, which had been solely focused on their food source, look up at their surrounding. Seeing the people, they prove to be as aggressive as Richelle had described. As a group they fan out and begin moving as quickly as they can toward everyone. It is also noted, as they charge in, that they are about twice the size of a man's head.

OOC: NOTE:
Physically attacking for all characters involves all 3 basic skills: Collegiate, Commercial, and Combat. The Collegiate skill considers the potential for Way as it pertains to augmenting the character. The Commercial skill considers accuracy, and the Combat skill considers actual training.

Raven Elk: 12(Fury) + 20(Lethality) + 20(Attack) + 91(d100) = 143
Beetle: 4(Defense) + 8(Defend) + 60(d100) = 72
Damage: 143 - 72 = 71% * 10 = 7 - 2(soak) = 5
Mind: 2 - 5 = -3: unconscious
Body: 4 - 3 = 1: hurt

GM: When the beetles decide to charge in, Raven Elk quickly adjust his strategy to accommodate the movement. He swings his spear like a club, smacking the beetle for all he is worth, knocking the thing aside, as it stays on its back with it's legs twitching.

Vittero, who reacts next, runs forward to close the distance even faster, swinging his bow like a club.
OOC: Vittero: 11 + 22 + 22 + 87 = 142
Damage: 142 - 72 = 70% * 10 = 7 - 2(soak) = 5
Mind: 2 - 5 = -3: unconscious
Body: 4 - 3 = 1: hurt

GM: Vittero has the same success as Raven Elk.

Adi approaches the nearest beetle and uses his staff to flip it over onto its back. Then he picks a spot that looks soft and attempts to drive his staff through it.

Adi approaches the nearest beetle and uses his staff to flip it over onto its back. Then he picks a spot that looks soft and attempts to drive his staff through it.
GM: Adi immediately realizes that Raven Elk must have been oversimplifying matters, as there seems to be no feasible method to simply flip the bug and elects to just smack it, hoping to catch it where the top plate meets the bottom.

OOC: Adisakti: 11(Fury) + 19(Lethality) + 18(Attack) + 83(d100) = 131
Beetle: 4(defensiveness) + 8(defend) + 60(d100) = 72
Damage: 131 - 72 = 59% * 10 = 6 - 2(soak) = 4
Mind: 2 - 4 = -2: unconscious
Body: 4 - 2 = 2: hurt

GM: Adi whirls his staff, catching the beetle on the side and upends it. Like the previous two, it lies on its back unconscious, involuntarily kicking its legs.
