No, you just feel entitled to it in spite of having no particular right to it. That’s your problem, not anyone else’s.

Considering this is a public forum and that because of that there is no actual way to prevent him from seeing your posts then I'd say he should feel entitled to be able to read them. In fact I'd go even further and say that because this is a public forum that he in fact does have the right to read your posts.

The only real question left is why do you feel you should have the right to inconvenience him by forcing him to have to log off his account in order to read your posts?

And the forum, literally by virtue of having a block function, makes it so that specifically in this space, they have the right to bar you from interacting with them in any way,

Well yes, but the discussion is about whether the forum should be doing that or not.

including seeing their posts (bugs aside), and you have no right to view or otherwise interact with someone who has blocked you.

But you do have the right to view posts from someone that has blocked you as long as you log out first. I also believe we should have that right simply because this is a public forum

Just like if this were a building, and it had rooms with locks, and the management allowed people to say, “frank can’t come into this room while I’m using it” as a specific policy, Frank would have no recourse when barred from entering a room.

This is a public forum. It's more like standing on a public street corner and being able to force Frank to leave the street corner you are on just because you are on it. You should have no expectation of being able to do that with Frank and you should have no expectation of being able to do that here.

In fact you can't. The best you can do is inconencience someone that tries to read what you are saying.

So most importantly, why do you think you need the right to inconvenience others by leaving the only option of reading your posts after you block them as logging out? What purpose does that really serve?

No, what I am arguing for is a perfectly normal block function. You can log out and view my posts if you’re weird or angry or whatever enough to do so, but you can’t @, quote, or otherwise interact, and you have to go out of your way to a degree that the vast majority of people just aren’t going to do in order to see my activity. That part of blocking is working fine. It doesn’t have to be perfect to work.

So what purpose does inconveniencing others in relation to reading your posts actually serve? Why is it good for you to be able to inconvenience others in such a way?

It's trivially easy to make another account and quote you if that's what I want to do. You can't stop anyone from seeing or responding to your posts if they are set on seeing and responding to your posts.

I'm fairly certain making alt accounts to bypass the block feature is against the rules. I don't think visiting the forum while not logged into your account is against the rules.

It's against the rules, but unless you are exceedingly stupid and let the person know it's you and/or fail to alter the identifying features of your computer, you aren't going to get caught. It's not something I would ever bother to do, but if someone wants to do it, it's pretty easy to accomplish.

I wouldnt recommend sockpuppetering. You don't have to be exceedingly stupid to accidentally reference something that reveals your true nature, and most forums will permablock both accounts. Not worth it.

Visiting while logged out, on the other hand, is impossible to prove, and so I don't know of a single forum that bans it.

As someone who moderates on other forums... It’s a lot harder to get away with than you think it is. There are a lot of really easy to spot, difficult to hide red flags that’ll give you away.
