Yup, same old, same old. "There's no one that wants a warlord" "it's a bad idea" "it's from the edition no one likes" "warlord fans want too many different things" "you can't agree on what you want" on and on and on. Do you not get that none of those things are the problem. It's the fact that we can't even TALK about warlords. That the well has been so poisoned by edition warriors that we cannot even bring it up in conversation without it getting dragged down into the muck again?

Like I said, hey, let's have a UA example. They've floated all sorts of other ideas, some of which have gone away, and some that have gained traction. Is that really too much to ask?

I mean, if we want to talk numbers, I'm pretty willing to stack the number of 4e players against any specific setting other than Forgotten Realms. So, I guess that Psionics, and Artificers are only catering to that one person too.

literally where have we not been able to have a conversation about Warlords. pretty much every time I'm on this forum there is a discussion about Warlords.

Besides, there has been official talks about the Warlord, do you not remember the Happy Fun Hour that was dedicated to that? Or was that not the true warlord enough for you?

Past a certain point, people are gonna be upset no matter what you do, so it's best to just tell them to go pound sand and do want you want to do.

What's a Happy Fun Hour?

Now, if there's been a warlord discussion on these forums every time you've been on, doesn't that tell you that there is at least some interest in seeing an official version? Even if it's just a UA version? If, what, almost ten years after 4e ended, we've still got people who would like to see the class, dontcha think there's at least a smidgeon of demand?

What baffles me to no end is why folks are so threatened by the idea. Why are folks just SO hardline opposed to it. I get not liking it. Fair enough. I don't like psionics personally and never really have. But, I can't imagine coming on forums time and time again to tell folks that they shouldn't have psionics in the game and that psionics are "objectively" bad. :erm:

One UA article. That's all I'm asking for. Is that really too much?

Mike Mearls' Happy Fun Hour was a weekly Twitch show where Mike Mearls would design something (usually an alpha version of a Subclass) for an hour talking with the Twitch chat folks, explaining stuff while he did so. It was extremely informative about 5E and the design philosophy and nitty-gritty. Not broadcasting since Mearls went to Belgium to work on the video game earlier this year. One Subclass that started there, the Order Cleric, has gone to UA and publication so far.

Four episodes, the entirety of March last year, were spent on building a Warlord Fighter Subclass, worth listening to if interested in the place the designers are at with the Warlord, here is the result of the early brainstorm:

Oh man did you miss out.

Last year, before that scandal with whatshisname blew up, Mearls had a weekly twitch stream where he showed the creative possess behind making subclasses for 5th edition,

We talked about it here. And here is a link to the rest of them.

It was BG3 that led to the hiatus, not the hulabaloo. Though Kate Wlech has taken over as the Face of the team.

In case you aren't trolling, Happy Fun Hour is a thing that Mike Mearls used to do (and hopefully will continue) where he live streamed creative processes for creating classes and sub-classes for 5e.

He did four videos on just the Warlord, none of which have made it to UA yet, probably because it hasn't passed internal playtesting yet, because surprisingly, they don't just put random stuff in UA.

I think the things he worked on will mostly sit on the back burner until they are ready to get serious about the next big Xanathar's style book, or never be talked about again.

His Warlord Subclass seemed pretty interesting, to me.
