D&D 5E 2020 Release Speculation Thread

I would absolutely love a Dragonlance book. A new war of the lance, with PCs fighting in great big battles, would be pretty cool.

I'll always hope for a new Manual of the Planes, but there aren't any signs pointing to that next year.

Maybe it is, if these playtest subclasses aren't MtG related, then a Manual of the Planes/Planescape book, but not called that is the most likely book for them.

Yes, the two main possibilities are for these to be related to a XGtE book, or a Setting book. But if a setting, which setting? Planescape seems plausible.

Or a book that is a blend of XGTE and a Setting Book, like a Planescape/Planeshift/manual of the Planes Book.

Well, I mean...I guess we could look at Ravnica and Eberron and say we already have that?

One wild possibility is, maybe we'll have multiple Setting books, since Stewart seems keen on them with their new model.

You know, looking at the way Paizo is handling releases for Pathfinder 2e by giving previews, announcing titles and themes nearly a year in advance, I find myself wishing WotC would use this approach. It seems like Wizards announces things like a month before the book comes out. I can't plan around it. I don't feel hype about it. I spend time creating original content only to have them release "official" stuff a few months later.

To the OP: There have been hints of dragonlance and greyhawk stuff (among other hints they appear as DMsGuild selection options now even if there is nothing in those categories.) Hard to tell if that stuff is come sooner or later though.

Dragonlance and Greyhawk on DMsGuild

The Dragonlance piece of this is interesting. Greyhawk less so, just because Ghosts of Saltmarsh is set there. Still, maybe more Greyhawk is coming?

Definitely would love a redone War of the Lance. The modules could definitely be remade and improved, to be more of a sandbox.

This method has proven to make WotC more money, so no change is likely soon. There is a three month window, that WotC has proven allows the fanbase to get excited and amped up for a product.

The last time something was revealed a year in advance was when someone dug around the depths of the internet and found a placeholder for the player book WotC was futzing around with. And then when WotC changed their mind and decided not to make it a full book (and instead it ended up being the Elemental Evil pdf) people lost their even-loving minds. Calling WotC every name in the book for lying to them, even though WotC never announced this book as being in production, let alone possibly being released.

WotC learned there and then that many of their fans are some of the most entitled and whiny little babies in the world and that there was no way they were ever going to give announcements or previews of things until the books were virtually in the can and they could guarantee what they said was what was going to be there.

We have no one to blame but ourselves.

Most MtG setting don't have enough lore to fill a whole book by themselves, and few D&D settings like that too. Besides Ravnica MtG has 2, maybe 3 Settings that could support their own book, the rest are either too small or two lore poor for a whole book.

The problem I have with the Paizo approach is that while I am initially interested, I completely forget about the product and end up not knowing when it actually comes out!
