Mmmmmmm...the thread is about polearms collectively. Spears are polearms btw. They are part of the thread.
Your OP exclusively talked about spears. People have responded to your thoughts about spears to help you out with advice about spears.

As I pointed out to you, spears are very different in capability to polearms such as halberds. If you want to talk about those sorts of polearms, we can, but talking about something and then telling everyone they are wrong because you were actually talking about something else from the start is . . . not good etiquette.

And yes, spears are a type of polearm. Terriers are a type of dog. If you ask about terriers, don't expect people to talk about dogs in general, or huskies in partiicular.

Now: considering that the polearm-user is perhaps the most optimised melee fighter possible in 5e, what do you think the main problem with their representation is?

I edited it after the first post or two because i had meant the overall group known as polearms (which includes spears) is exceptionally succesful historically. I slipped and used the wrong word to refer to the over all family. That saud spears ARE particularly a standout. My correction was nearly immesiate and i announced it in the most recent post at the time

I have actually trained with them for actual martial arts. Does that count?
Sure, but I am more interested in the untrained for this discussion, or at least the equally trained.

I am trained in martially arts too, but never took weapon classes, just unarmed. However, I have seen many demonstrations of martial arts (beyond just the LARPing I have participated in or witnessed) and from my observation, people of the same skill the sword is better. If the spear user is more skill, however, they typical "win."

FYI, i am skilled enough unarmed that I can beat an unskilled spear wielder fairly frequently, but almost never a an unskilled sword user.

Thought u were saying athena was AND NOT zeus.

Woopsy. This is entirely my bad and im sorry
No worries. I got to get back to work now, but I might check back latter. Though I feel this is just going in circles a bit.

Basically, my advice: If you want better spears, go for it, just don't expect everyone to jump on that bandwagon.

Context here is unskilled, and there you mention something true: it is much harder to dodge or grab a sword while unarmed (and unarmored) than to dodge a spear, at least to do so and stay uninjured in the process. Add armor and then things again start to look in favor of the spear.

Please not , (ROFLMAO) you are supposed to believe that you can cut a person in half with Katanas, even if the person wears full plate and is standing in the next room separated from you by 10 inches of concrete wall :p

Do not trigger the fan boys I beg you :p
Begging shall not save us from the narutos. ive broken a properly made katana with my hands (i was wearingngloves obviously). A good sword would have at least made my hands ache.
