None of my analogies were as obvious of a point as eating bacon.

However, before I start launching into a full blown discussion of sacred texts and what sincere religious people are thinking, I'm going to have to get that cleared with higher authority.
Ah... the classic response of non-engagement.

Sometimes, simplification is necessary to facilitate discussion.

In this case, I believe the simplification was appropriate.

The problem here is that there is no Biblical passage saying that you "shan't play D&D".

The OP literally quotes Deuteronomy 18 as justification. Now, you may not agree with that interpretation, but that's a whole other can of worms...

And why must there be a biblical passage at all to justify another's belief for you? Perhaps you have bibliolatrous cultural preconceptions of which you need to divest yourself?

What a load of illogical tripe.

References to hijab and cheeseburgers?

Not really. A belief is a belief is a belief. And, for what it's worth, I think they're all empty and irrational.

I just don't make arbitrary distinctions between them.

Good enough justification, but these distinctions are not, in fact, arbitrary.

The ideal is what is actually mentioned in the text, which may be arbitrary to some (although, at that point, all things are), which informs all religious belief which is founded in the notation of the religious text.

A very OK person
This is about the fifth person practicing tolerance that would have gotten me a 3 day ban.
It’s possible his comment falls under constructive ridicule that Umbran said is okay.

“Ridicule, like any tool, can be used constructively or destructively.”

I think at least some of the remaining anti-D&D sentiments are leftover vestiges of anti-fantasy and anti-mythology attitudes that were more or less abandoned by most.

For instance, my sister told me that my nephews weren't allowed to play D&D after I ran some games for them. But at the same time, she's fine with Lord of the Rings, and thinks Greek Mythology is fun. She even asked me about what the issues are that people have with Harry Potter, and seemed not to have a problem with it after I told her. (That was actually the context for her saying that she didn't have a problem with mythology.) I'm pretty sure she isn't concerned that I'm going to lead her kids into Satanism. And she was around when I played D&D as a kid, and should know it didn't do anything to hurt me. The only thing I can think of is that some vestigial stigma has been attached to D&D that doesn't apply to fantasy in general (and it's likely it's from her husband rather than her). I've been considering proposing running a Star Wars RPG or something to see if it's the fantasy or the RPG that is the objectionable content here.

At the same time...they're allowed to hunt witches for magical ingredients so they can build gates to the Nether and fight demonic creatures in Minecraft...

Well, that was fun

Neither did I.

But rather than risk upsetting or offending you with another attempt, can you clarify it for us instead?
Sure. I quoted somebody’s tweet (by embedding it). It says:

“Guys......how do I reply......???????? I’m still shook. I guess my mom saw my Christmas list with a few D&D things on it”

And observed for some (the upset young person I quoted) that the Satanic Panic hasn’t quite ended.

So what’s your answer to their question?

No, it wasn’t acceptable. I’m out for the evening at a pub quiz (it’s half time, I’m allowed my phone briefly) but I’ll get to it.

Legend
None of my analogies were as obvious of a point as eating bacon. Remember, one of the examples was getting photographed with a pig - not touching, not eating, etc.

However, before I start launching into a full blown discussion of sacred texts and what sincere religious people are thinking, I'm going to have to get that cleared with higher authority.

I'm not quite sure what your analogies were for anyway.

My point is that some people in this thread accuse us, who think the Satanic Panic is ridiculous, of being intolerant.

My point is that there is a limit to tolerance. I can tolerate not eating pork products because of your religious belief. I can not tolerate trying to deprive others (of your religion or not) of a product because 'it contains pork' when there is evidence that it does not contain pork. You can't defend that kind of thing by raising the shield of 'Freedom of Religion'.
