D&D General Which ability score would you like to increase to 18 in real life?

Which ability score?

  • Strength

  • Dexterity

  • Constitution

  • Intelligence

  • Wisdom

  • Charisma

This answer only creates more questions for me. Why are there so many diabetics on this site? Why has this one health issue caused them to believe other scores would not be an even better choice? Furthermore, statistically, there are two other ability scores that would have the free knock on benefit of removing diabetes from the equation in tge first place. Im not going to say what those two stats are though. Feel like thats a can of worms. Still...this only creates more questions. Wtf...
Just a snowball effect I am sure. One person talks about Diabetes, then a few more chime in.

Note: Cancer has also been mentioned by about as many users as Diabetes has.

Also note: we have more cases of Cancer and Diabetes these days because fewer people are dying from heart failure than 20 years ago. We are living longer and suffering from new things, so yay?

Wow...

Why is everyone voting for constitution?
Because it’s objectively the most important stat IRL, as long as one doesn’t have any major deficiencies in any other stat?
Because they want the hit points... whatever those are. ;)
This. Not only the obvious “better general health” part, or the “it would probably cure a lot of diseases or make them manageable to the point of effectively curing them”, but also...plot armor. I’ll still take high Dex and average Con in a fight, but I can see why one would take higher HP instead.
We have drifted quite a bit now haven't we.
a little drift never hurt nobody. 😂

It’s not that complex. Also, no, there aren’t any stats that would remove diabetes from the equation. Even con wouldn’t cure it, it would just make it much easier to manage.

You seem to not understand what diabetes is. But hey, feel free to explain how any stat would help a type 1 diabetic, or prevent modern western food from having so much processed carbs and added sugar that someone born prone to diabetes will become diabetic simply by eating the same diet as all the healthy athletes around them.

Yup... "no time to explain, but let me sum up".

Health = quality of life.

18 Con, especially as Morrus set up on page one = physical disease-free = "no brainer" for most people.
Yep. Like, even if we don’t accept the notion that 18 Con = magical disease immunity, it absolutely means all you organs are gonna pretty much work right. There goes diabetes if you’re pre-diabetic, and maybe if you’re already fully diabetic. Even if you’re pretty far along on the diabetes scale, your filtering organs are going to start working right, which will eliminate the need for diabetes meds to manage the disease. 🤷‍♂️

I’m lucky in that I’m not that bad off, and I only need some metformin anyway, so I choose to be able to move like I want and take the more minor health benefits required to have an 18 Dex, but I totally get why others choose 18 Con.

As i said before. Not saying what they are. But there are 2 stats among the 6 other than con which absolutely will have a statistical effect on diabetes. In the case of one of them its actually probably a stronger statistical effect than con. It would be as easy as breathing to explain this and ill reaffirm that but i dont wanna open a can of worms. Just look up demographics that have and dont have diabetes and think carefully about commanalities they have which can have very strong but indirect causal influence.

No. There is no stat that will take diabetes out of the equation. If you don’t want to open a can of worms, then don’t. But don’t make wildly unsupported statements and then hide behind not wanting to face the disagreement. 🤷‍♂️

Take diabetes off the table then.

Magically making oneself more resistant to dying is going to have broad appeal to many human beings.
