D&D 5E Dragon+ issue 28: Eberron living spells

Could a living spell be adopted as pet or animal companion? We have to take care because this could allow some abuses by munchkins, for example with spells about defense.

Unimaginative.

Just off the top of my head - a living lightning bolt should be a spark of lightning that arcs 100 each round, inflicting damage on anyone between its start and endpoints.

I prefer to play Living Spells as more capricious than vicious, especially non-attack spells. I had a cleric's Guardian of Faith spell become Living while the party were exploring the Mournland, and it basically became the obnoxious-DM version of the spell, firing off whenever even the tiniest rodent or insect came into range. Then, when it had expended all its damage, it would re-cast itself next to the cleric the next round.

Perhaps it would be appropriate for Clerics with the Magic domain to be able to Turn or Command Living Spells? Perhaps wizards can use Counterspell to some effect?

An area of the Mournland that is meticulously clean and organized. No one knows why, but anything left out gets A. cleaned and B. put away neatly over night when nobody is watching.

Careful investigation will find a size tiny Living Prestidigitation cantrip hiding in a little burrow that comes out at night and casts itself on anything dirty.

Travel through the dead forest has been a difficult day. Two short years ago this was one of best establised & most dense forests of livewood on Vadalis logging's portfolio, but today the entire forest is dead. No living birds, no living animals, not even insects remain alive other than the masses of undead for forest is silent.... The players find themselves a well stocked cabin & barricade themselves in after removing the desiccated bodies within. The fact that a living animate dead spell takes them away within an hour of being placed outside sheds some light on things & the party assumes the former occupants died hiding from undead. That night, the person on watch notices a thick green fog pouring in through the cracks of the cabin. The living cloudkill is less than helpful with their rest.

The party finds a Glowing Portal, beyond lies a magical mansion. Beautiful, comfortable, and unexpectedly, Safe. There is food, safe and wholesome, clean safe beds, and unseen servants that attend to their needs.

There is no gotcha here. The party spends a fine comfortable night.

In the morning, when they leave, they have no idea where they are. The door has moved dozens of miles in a random direction while the party slept.

Living Modenkainen's Magnificent Mansion.

These are amazing! Someone should compile them all and put them up on DM's guild... 100 living spells and story hooks
You were sent to recover family heirlooms from the shelter below this little just mire than a nothing of a city, but it's been three days of fighting your way through undead infested streets & sleeping in attics. The entire town seems to have just up & turned into undead with very little scuffle when the day of mourning struck. Today you open the shelter doors... inside is a living necrotic spirit guardians(or cloudkill) & living animate dead along with the what used to be thetownspeople lucky enough to hide from the growing undead population. :D
