Unearthed Arcana New UA: 43 D&D Class Feature Variants

The latest Unearthed Arcana is a big 13-page document! “Every character class in D&D has features, and every class gets one or more class feature variants in today’s Unearthed Arcana! These variants replace or enhance a class’s normal features, giving you new ways to enjoy your character’s class.”

So only 80 or so years effectively weaponless
And sorry the movie is Aragorn for as many or more than the books
Yup weaponless brassy dude.
Bet his hunting opportunities with weapon shards was pretty significant. Probably threw them at deer.

There is our throwing archetype

No... the shard that he carried was the Hilt shard. It was broken a foot below the tip, which still left a sword with an 18" blade and sharp tip.

He wasn't weaponless ever.

Movie Aragorn is adapted and changed Aragorn.

Real Aragorn is book Aragorn.

I agree that Drizzt is more the archetypical D&D ranger than really any other fictional character, even though his beast companion is totally cheating!
I am massively flexible actually I tweaked the Two Weapon Fighting ranger to work better for a Aragorn, even though Warlord completely worked too. The boost to the party initiative always made me thinking of Aragorn.

Must have sucked to hunt with that could make a reason to use a bow... like the elves he was around so often

I bet he just foraged for food when traveling and took dried meats along with him. Hunting while traveling wasn't probably a thing outside of snares for small game. Too much time/effort to hunt a large thing and dress it for one person.

I'm blanking where I remember this from so this may not be real, but I remember that the Rangers kept caches of things out in the wilds as well.

Snares are a stationary tool... tool take too much time. Proposing he didnt bow hunt seems really really reaching to be honest.

Maybe.

It is impossible to know as Tolkien to my knowledge never covered it, so let your imagination run wild with all of Aragorn's frolicking bow hunting expeditions!

Tolkien was a War Veteran I am entirely picturing every warrior who could afford one with a ranged weapon... and not acting silly.

He's never shown to use one in the LotR trilogy of books. That's all we know about Aragorn and bows.

As I said, let your imagination run wild with this one.
