Kinda weird this isn't released with a FR centric AP or supplement, but is released with a Critical Role supplement.

Especially since they share the explorer theme.

Voice of dissent here: If I was starting up a campaign in the Forgotten Realms, especially as a new player or new DM, these would be great.

That said, I play with a fair number of newish players, so if WotC made an even more basic generic set not connected to a setting, I could very well see picking it up.

There's a sweet dice tray that has a saying on the back that is basically the very concept/spirit of DND itself as a whole.
Which is what?
Was really hoping for npc cards for actual usable NPCs, not the big ones most will never meet. This product is definitely not aimed at me.
Me too.

I like the color scheme on this, bright/ice blue is very nice and appealing. The dice are a nice set too. And the map is a style I really like as well (looks like it might be a CC3+ map). But I just don't see what to do with the cards? I now they are not aimed at me, but even for someone new, they aren't playing card size so they are hard to carry (or protect). They seem to have a random sampling of NPCs and factions and are not complete in either regard.

Maybe that means they might release more of these cards as part of other kits?

Finally, I do like the "Icewind Dale" clue, wonder what that means and doubt it's not an intentional easter egg.

Wasn't the Icewind Dale CRPG remastered and rereleased recently? It could be as simple as "hey, here is a place you know from videogames, like Baldur's Gate and Neverwinter, and here's us explicitly reminding you it can also be found on this map."
