One of many things I liked about 4e was it fulfilled on promises made by 1e and 2e, providing a defender able to defend his allies and an intelligent/clever tactical strategist one able to do more than lip service the attributes.

Out of the box... 5e rescinded both of those and brought back not better than a door stop.
Point being, If you are just now not feeling like the games target audience you should really feel lucky.

You can't have a crossover between two different RPG systems, so... My Little Pony will have to wait as long as a D&D 5E Pathfinder sourcebook, I'm afraid.
Bah! They're both Hasbro! If this were a small, nimble company like, I don't know, TSR I'm sure they could make it happen. :)

There is a 5th Ed setting, Ponyfinder, and the races are in the SRD.

Do you think WotC has had to await because Hasbro has got plans with Enternaiment One?

Think about it. If they had wanted, the could talked with other videogame studio for a mobile game about mananing a stronghold in the world of Birthright. But they haven't done it. They could create a new D&D cartoon, o children serie easy to be adapted to D&D, or new novels. It is as if they wanted to launch before other titles, as videogames or media.

For sure my kids are unusual, but the material is being skewed towards kids and families, very strongly.

You honestly think the D&D core books are being aimed at kids and families? That's not my sense at all. I'd be shocked if even 10 per cent of the core books were being sold to or bought for kids under 16. Just as I'd by shocked if anything more than a tiny portion of the audience of Critical Role was 6 and 8 years olds.
