Hm, I now watched the first half our and feel like you could recreate basically the exact same thing just going over the first few pages of the FRCS.

Especially all the parts about how only the "violent" side of the myths&legends seems to be what makes it interesting for D&D and not the reality of the people who lived there. Yes, that's 100% true and the very same approach taken the the european myths&legends.

We do not care about the daily struggle of a medieval serf under a feudal system, we only care about an arthurian knight fighting an ancient greece hydra in weapons and armor that came around 500 years after the the myth abour Arthur

Either I don't exist or you don't bother reading posts.

Also, as it happens, within the past few days, I saw several posts on Twitter posting to a stream from Asian tabletop roleplayers where they do reading through AD&D Oriental Adventures and talk about what makes it so terrible and offensive.

I should clarified, I meant good posts, I should have been clearer.

Btw piece of advise, never go by what people on Twitter say, it's a toxic bubble.

it's the perfect opportunity to rip it down and rebuild the "outlying" areas of the Realms into places that honor their inspirations.

It's also a chance to do new and interesting things, and organize it better. I've never said Kara Tur is perfect, it's far from it, but there is, ALOT of raw potential there.

It was a sufficient answer for what your thread warranted.

So the answer to my earlier question is that you would ignore what Asian people would say when they talk about the cringeyness of Kara-Tur and OA? I'm glad we cleared that up.

I think that you are focusing on one element and overlooking the combination of elements that are symptomatic of orientalism. They have more than one video, including ones that go over the races and classes.

A lot of what was once hip and cool and popular, etc in the 70s or 80s or 90s, especially in English-speaking countries, whether in music or movies or books or RPGs, is not now. People need to take off their rose-colored nostalgia glasses and look at things again and stop supporting stuff that is an insult to their fellow human beings. The old Oriental Adventures/Kara-Tur stuff is part of this and I just don't see how it can be updated to be more accurate without the old, bad stuff coming up again. I would rather use the Asian-themed parts of Golarion from Pathfinder, than to use Kara-Tur again, and that area has it's own problems as well.
