D&D 5E The case for (and against) a new Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting book

Not necessarily. I'm just not sure how well Gygaxiana would resonate with the contemporary crowd. Some "kids" might like Greyhawk, but others might be off-put by the kingdom of Geoff and hex-maps. It may even be that WotC feels similarly about the Forgotten Realms, and feels like Magic settings, OGL era settings, and Mercer's world are more relatable.

I'm not knocking Gygax or Greyhawk. I like Greyhawk well enough, and even have a special place in my heart for it, even if it isn't my favorite setting (Of the early settings, pre-2E, Krynn was probably my favorite). Heck, a lot of my artistic and musical tastes are from bygone eras (e.g. I love 70s funk and fusion jazz). I just think we shouldn't project 40-50-something nostalgia onto modern sensibilities.

They've already put out an extensive Greyhawk regional book, that even rebooted the timeline to the original box set. They said at Game Hole Con that the Setting aspect of Ghosts of Saltmarsh has been well-received, so...never say never.

The Forgotten Realms has a ton of Setting books: the Adventure books are dripping in bits of the Setting, as desired. Keeping the global status vague helps keep their options open, and keeps the books useful for people using other time-frames. There was that DMs Guild project that came out last year that got into detail on Baldur's Gate in the 3E era, for instance.

You made an unreasonable and ridiculous statement. I disagreed to an extent.
Yet you use emotive language and forbid questioning your statement. I am not sure why you are so intent in expressing nerdrage at a reasonable disagreement to your hyperbole.

"Many consider" is not hyperbole. I would say your offense at that sentence is, well, hyperbolic. This isn't a court of law where everything needs to be perfectly exact. Feel free to disagree, but let's do ourselves both a favor and not waste more time on it.

Wasn't Mearls a fan of Greyhawk? I wonder if him leaving the company reduces the likelihood of a Greyhawk book.

Mearls hasn't left the company, he got a promotion and works in a different studio (the D&D Franchise Studio, as opposed to the TTRPG Studio).

I don't think the new TTRPG leadership does reduce Greyhawk's odds: the Executive Producer Ray Winninger actually used to write Greyhawk material back in the day (alright, one that Greyhawk fans hate with a passion, but it's something).
