D&D 5E Tired of doing WotC's job

If you want to play D&D but prefer much more detailed rules I found 3.X much more detailed. I have not played Pathfinder 2E but I hear it has highly detailed rules.

Items lists are not for me. Because I find them close to useless. Take Aurora's. So there is a list with weights and costs of a dozen different types of boots. But know what? There are thousands or millions of different types of boots. I mean if you want a list for everything... you aren't going to find it. What about Dwarven Goblin Stomper Boots made of cloaker leather and soles inlaid with umber hulk shell for traction? I mean you get the point right?

A PC asks me how much for a cloak, I'm not going to say "15 silver and it weighs 1 pound, next!" Instead if it's important enough I'm going to say "What are you looking for? A simple undyed woolen cloak to keep you warm? Or perhaps a royal purple silk cloak with a high cowl and stitched with platinum thread in your house crest?" You can believe they are going to cost, and weigh, different amounts. A single entry for any type of clothes when such are so varied in description, quality, availability, symbolism is really going to be inadequate.

I think someone else pointed this out, this seems to me to be more than just about 'missing rules'. Anyways, I hope the OP find game/system for them. There are thousand out there. Enjoy!

If you're getting bent out of shape over the lack of a listed price for cloaks (or other mundane items)....
If you're upset that DMs HAVE to decide various things.... Be it the price of a cloak or the exact details of Lycanthropy....

Then D&D - of any edition - isn't for you. Nor is pretty much any other RPG published in the last 45 years.
And you definitely should not be sitting in the Game Masters seat.

Typically awful advice.

I have a somewhat similar approach. Here's what I'd do:

Player: "I want to buy a cloak."

DM: "How much are you spending on it?"

Player: "Ummm...5 gold."

DM: "Cool. Describe it...."

etc.

EDIT: But maybe my players are getting tired of doing my work for me....
