D&D 5E Who is best in damage output Barbarians? Monks?

That's not a rule in 5e. What the heck?! Mage Slayer only affects Concentration Check.
Well, not quite. THey're right that casting a spell within 5ft of a character with Mage Slayer procs an Opportunity Attack, they're just houseruling the OA to interrupt rather than follow the resolution of the spell.

It's a perfectly reasonable houserule, as is further forcing the caster to make a check to not lose the spell when that OA is taken and hits, but it is a houserule (or a misunderstanding of the rules).

It's reasonable for the Mage Slayer OA to trigger a concentration check if it hits. But only on spells that require concentration (or readied spells).

The Mage should have no problem Misty Stepping away.

When the flying fire breathing dragon attacks your party, your monk will...throw a javelin?

Monks suck.
You’re mixing up monk and Barbarian.

The monk will pull out a short bow, or their Kensei longbow, or shoot radiant energy from their hand, or teleport onto its back and have advantage on their next attack, or cast an elemental spell at it, or spend a ki to triple their jump distance and leap onto its back, etc.

I use a shortbow... at my level it's the same damage as my fists and got better range than javelins... not that exciting.

You can only teleport if there's shadows, so if its in the middle of the day it's not that useful. I've done that before and it's fun but I forgot that teleporting grants you advantage on your next attack rolls ><

It’s a dragon. How would there not be shadows?

Mmm. Never check that it was impossible for a character to attack with big weapons when grappled. That one I missed out entirely. Even though it makes sense, it seems that I made a mistake.

As for the concentration check. Yeah... house rule. After 6 years, we tend to forget some of these and take it for granted. Works only on OA and not on prepared actions.

This. Monks better at range than a few classes. Shortbow at the worst, at least you're dex based.

Damage is fairly close overall the exception is feats. The -5/+10 ones are borked. I've seen DMs allowed then and then give out a decent magic great weapon or longbow.

My way of fists monk dealt a lot if damage, barely bothered with stunning strikes just tripped everything.

Much like rogue though if you use mobility a lot your damage craters. There's a time and place for mobility but death us best debuff.
