That's a great game. I know, I know, 2d20 as a system tends to provoke strong reactions, one way or another. Its implementation for Conan, however, is the best I've seen for that setting, and combat is the most flexible, cinematic, and gritty (yes, all those) that I've seen in a fantasy game. Great stuff.

If the "reset" button in the upper-right works with the printed version I'm in!

I've been wanting to try this system. I'll have to check on virtual conventions and Roll20 find a game to see if anyone is running one shots.

But first I need to go and google why 2d20 "tends to provoke strong reactions"... I seem to have missed out on that fight while out in the wilderness of no gaming.

I actually don't know, but then, I am bewildered when people get fired up over "I like this system and NOT THAT ONE." I've seen some heated discussions on ENWorld and elsewhere about probability in the 2d20 dice system, of people ranting about how the system creates an adversarial vibe between GM and players, and that it encourages the kicking of puppies. :) Basically, the sort of grinding rants you can expect from the worst of the gamer world.

The system is functional but overwrought, which Modiphius has been trying to unravel by stripping it back with each iteration. To give an example, the base dice mechanic includes elements of both roll under (roll low) as well a variable dice pool system to meet and beat a target number of successes (roll high). Both of those are well known elements but rarely are they seen together. Another example is that it has a proprietary dice system but just for damage, and this system will often produce the same results as a fixed number system i.e. x dice of damage will produce x damage more often than not. It has three drama point systems if you include the one the GM has.

Given it draws on so many elements without any real discretion, there will be stuff in there for everyone to like and not like, much more so than other systems IME. That may be a cause of the divisive reactions.

I guess those people would not like to play my Dead Puppies, the RPG, a new player v. GM 2d20 system. ;-)

It is hard for me to get more worked up about a game than "meh, I think I'll pass."

There are more gaming choices than I'll ever have a chance to experience in what is left of my life. Why sweat those I don't think I'll like?
