Dune Official Trailer

But it also looks like they tried to make it an action movie, which I don't feel will work. It's the approach that sunk the Dark Tower; I worry it will sink Dune, as well. And the Pink Floyd at the end was just galling.

Well, there is plenty of action in the first Dune book (or so I'm told), so that would not be inaccurate. And I see varous details in the trailer that are a lot more accurate to the book than versions we've seen before. I think we are probably going to see a lot more of the fight between House Atreides and House Harkonnen, and why they are so much at each other's throats; something that we never got to see in any of the tv shows, or Lynch's movie.

I don't what it says about trends in entertainment, but it's interesting that we're getting adaptations of both Dune and Foundation - two landmark 20th century works of sci-fi - at the same time.

Anyway, very much looking forward to this. Even my daughter is interested, because Timothee Chalamet!!! ;)

I'm sure adaptions such as Game of Thrones and the Expanse have something to do with it. Plus visual effects have finally caught up with what a story like Dune needs in order to be translated to the screen.

I watched the trailer five times yesterday and then watched Lynch's Dune for good measure after my wife went to sleep. Needless to say, I am excited for the new Dune. The cast looks great.

If had to sum up the trailer in one word, it would be: stately. I'm fine with that aesthetic. Going for, ahem, baroque like Lynch did would not have been wise. I'm even okay with the oddball choice of Pink Floyd.

Unfortunately, when it comes to trailers these days, we live in this world:

(Though they did miss the "rapid-fire action shot cuts that you can't follow" part.)

I will of course watch this moview if I can. I liked the original David Lynch film. I have read the book as well. Can't rememebr if I read the book after seeing the film (think I did). Rememebr seeing that movie and the original version of Bladerunner at a gaming convention.

I also think Sting is a better actor than singer (at least his solostuff)

That's hilarious. I was thinking to myself while watching the trailer, "what the hell is that garbage music in the background"? After 30 seconds then realizing it was "Eclipse" I thought "A: It doesnt fit, B: horrible rendition, C: because they sullied a good song I'll wait for PPV".

Looks pretty good to me. I'll take ornithopters that look like dragonflies instead of birds. At least they're winged.
Yeah, it's a pretty good compromise. What would the proper term be for them - anisopter?

Every time I see that "Only in theaters" tag at the end of a movie trailer, it sounds increasingly desperate.

I'm cautiously excited for it. I didn't like Blade Runner 2049, but a lot of that was because I didn't think it a sequel was needed 35 years later. Okay, that and Jared Leto.

The cast really is fantastic. The first movie had a great cast, but never really spent enough time on the characters other than Paul Atreides for it to matter. Don't get me wrong, I love that movie, flaws and all.
