Note: I noticed I made a typo and called him "Drizzy". I almost left it alone...

Only his friends call him "Drizzy."

Quibbles about the sculpt aside, I'll probably go for this figure just for pure novelty value. I passed on those KRE-O toys when they were on clearance forever, but I think I'll pick this up.

sigh it's always Drizzt. Don't get me wrong, I like the guy, and he's a Forgotten Realms icon, so that's probably why he's getting the merchandise attention, but the books barely feel like they take place in the Realms most of the time, at least imho.

It is a pretty cool figure though, I'll give it that.

Sigh. It's always more Drizzt complaints.

We get lots of Drizzt because Drizzt is the most popular D&D character of all time, like it or not. The non-Drizzt fans need to get over this and just move on to the next product if they aren't interested in the next Drizzt book, or in this case, toy-for-adults.

This particular action figure not only features the most popular D&D character, but features a character from an upcoming D&D video game . . . it's promotional for the game, Dark Alliance. A common marketing tool every video game company uses . . . .

Personally, while I've enjoyed all of the "Legend of Drizzt" novels up through #34 (haven't picked up #35-36 yet) . . . I have mixed feelings about the character, Salvatore's writing, and the larger Realms as a setting . . . . but I don't get bent-out-of-shape every time WotC or a licensing partner produces new Drizzt merchandise. They would be fools not to capitalize on the enduring popularity of the character.

Just for fun...

In the old goldbox games (1989-1991), drow showed up twice. Once as black with purple highlights (it was an EGA 16-color game), then again as purple...only some of the little combat icons were blue. (They were all multiclassed spellcasters in Pools of Darkness, mages tended to be blue and the priests purple though there was one purple wizard. I don't think I ever figured out what they were going for there.)

Oh, man. I loved those games. And EGA isn't a term I've hear in a god's age—brings back memories of my old 286.

Could be worse. It could be Elminster.
