D&D 5E Kobold Press (and are they the new Paizo?)

It would be a pleasant surprise, but given they haven't had a Kickstarter for it yet, just released the Deep Magic hardback, have the ToB II coming out shortly and just launched the Scarlet Citadel kickstarter, I'm going to say "probably not".

Sad, but fair enough. I'm pretty new to Kobold stuff, so I'm not too familiar with their normal business model/release schedule/etc. And I'd seen an October release date listed in a couple of places, so i'd gotten my hopes up...

I wonder if it will be a non-Kickstarter release. Usually they do 1-2 books a year that are non Kickstarter books such as Courts of the Shadow Fey and the Zobeck Gazetteer which both clocked in at around 150 pages.

But I wouldn't be surprised if they launch a Kickstarter for it a month or two after Scarlet Citadel closes.

Probably my favorite publisher. I buy their monster books, and support their Patreon (at the lowest PDF level, since I'm currently looking for work). I have a ton of their adventures (humble bundles, maybe?) and they are usually quite good. The biggest issue I have is the lack of generic VTT support in the newest KS (give me the tokens and maps).
The KS passed the stretch goal for the digital map pack yesterday which is great news. Hopefully tokens will be another stretch goal - I think they were added into Tome of Beasts 2 late on.

I see, thanks! I have only read the adventure, and it seemed pretty OK to me, so I was puzzled in the light of so many negative opinions online. I guess my players like that style too, that's why it would seem good enough for me.
I ran the whole Tyranny of Dragons campaign and we had a great time. There are some sections that benefit from fleshing out by the DM but that’s not hard to do if you have some experience and/or Forgotten Realms knowledge. Less easy for beginning DMs. I’d recommend the blog posts by Merric Blackman and Sly Flourish if you’re thinking of running it. I found them very helpful.

Very happy to hear people on here like Kobold Press’ stuff 😃

Happy to answer questions on Midgard and/or Empire of the Ghouls which I worked on.

Cheers!
How has Midgard changed from the earlier campaign setting to the more recent one? I got the more recent ones but I have only gone in depth on the older one.

Being a millionaire helped. As did a lot of personal connections, and retaining the subscriber base of Dragon and Dungeon magazines which they slipped over to Pathfinder subscriptions (which is a bit of a data ownership issue, TBH, but it was a different time then). You can't replicate those two advantages, no matter how good at business you are.

She is also an awesome businessperson though. But without those two advantages, Paizo would be Kobold Press.

Right, she also knew Jonathan Tweet (Ars Magica and indie games like Everway and Over the Edge) and Mark Rein-Hagen (Vampire: the Masquerade), apparently from St. Olaf College in Minnesota, which has got to have an endowed professorship devoted to gaming at this point. (The founder of Fantasy Flight games also appears to be an alum.)

It's worthwhile mentioning that successful businesspeople, even ones as in this case who have produced an excellent product that satisfied many people, usually have significant advantages at the start.

Brilliant East is NOT being released in October. An incorrectly run ad in a trade magazine is the reason for the confusion.
It is the worst kept secret in RPGs that Brilliant East IS coming, but Kobold Press has not officially made any official announcements yet

There will be a new Kickstarter after the current Scarlet Citadel (everyone has backed the Scarlet Citadel Kickstarter, right?? ) but it will not be Brilliant East. It might be a setting book like Brilliant East though ... :p
