D&D 5E Unearthed Arcana: Gothic Lineages & New Race/Culture Distinction

The latest Unearthed Arcana contains the Dhampir, Reborn, and Hexblood races. The Dhampir is a half-vampire; the Hexblood is a character which has made a pact with a hag; and the Reborn is somebody brought back to life.

Perhaps the bigger news is this declaration on how race is to be handled in future D&D books as it joins other games by stating that:

"...the race options in this article and in future D&D books lack the Ability Score Increase trait, the Language trait, the Alignment trait, and any other trait that is purely cultural. Racial traits henceforth reflect only the physical or magical realities of being a player character who’s a member of a particular lineage. Such traits include things like darkvision, a breath weapon (as in the dragonborn), or innate magical ability (as in the forest gnome). Such traits don’t include cultural characteristics, like language or training with a weapon or a tool, and the traits also don’t include an alignment suggestion, since alignment is a choice for each individual, not a characteristic shared by a lineage."

I want a system that allows for Tasha's (we had that before Tasha's, it's our table) and one in which there are specific racial ASI which we have had in various ways, forever.
As noted OD&D did not have any racial modifiers. But I agree that they have been around for a long time!

We won't going forward.

The UA makes that clear or am I missing something?
I don't believe they are changing anything that is currently out. They are not reprinting the PHB with these revised rules anytime soon I don't believe.

I do kinda expect an updated PHB with these rules in 2024. Going back to OD&D with no racial modifiers seems like a good anniversary homage!

I think these options would have to be for a very specific sort of campaign like ravenloft or innistrad (in which case, I also need a werewolf racial option, not sure shifters quite cut it). In my standard fantasy type world I think these races will be left on the cutting room floor.
