D&D 5E 20th level Sorcerer vs the world

It's exactly what I said... It's impossible to know who, but nowhere it says you aren't AWARE (to quote JCVD) that you're the subject of a spell.
Oh all powerful Hohige I bow before your bad faith
Read again:

But what about the act of casting a spell?

" Is it possible for someone to perceive that a spell is being cast in their presence?
To be perceptible, the casting of a spell must involve a verbal, somatic, or material component. The form of a material component doesn't matter for the purposes of perception, whether it's an object specified in the spell's description, a component pouch, or a spellcasting focus.

If the need for a spell's components has been removed by a special ability, such as the sorcerer's Subtle Spell feature or the Innate Spellcasting trait possessed by many creatures, the casting of the s pell is imperceptible. If an imperceptible casting produces a perceptible effect, it's normally impossible to determine who cast the spell in the absence of other evidence"

They seem to be unable to read or are being dishonest.

In its present, The Bastion can cast Subtle Dominate on you and you won't know.

Yes, in your presence.
Combined with Stealthy Casting is unbeatible.

The DM was correct, following the rules.

Not

The effects of the spell

Sage Advice already establishes that if you succeed a saving throw against Suggestion, you know you were subject to a spell. No reason this logic doesn't apply to Dominate. Also, RAW:

A saving throw--also called a save--represents an attempt to resist a spell, a trap, a poison, a disease, or a similar threat.

Apparently, in Rule of Cool House Rules, I don't notice that I am struggling to break my mind free of the wicked wizard's grasp.

To steal part of the description is to be dishonest. Fact.
First, it's DM's discretion as to whether it's noticed or not. "Unless a spell has a perceptible effect, a creature might not know it was targeted by a spell at all. "

Second, I never claimed to have every line of the book memorized. I've ruled for a long time that if the effect of a spell is potentially damaging the target notices. Guess I've been ruling that way so long that I forgot it was just a ruling. 🤷‍♂️

As for the rest? If you ever tried most of this BS in my game you would be asked to leave so it's not worth discussing.

From XGtE, p. 85:

"[Y]ou normally don't know that a spell has been cast unless the spell produces a noticeable effect."

Arguing that you don't notice when you've been hurt, when you're struggling to resist mental control, when you're overcome with terror, etc, is a non-starter at 99.9999% of tables, including, I'll take a wild guess, anyone involved in writing the rules.

Well that's the problem all the spells you pretend to cast produce noticeable effects. Sure their casting is imperceptible but damaging or controlling someone's mind is a noticeable effect you know...
