D&D 5E 20th level Sorcerer vs the world

The former is entirely dependent on world-lore, though it's mentioned as a possible path (not the only one) in the books.

As to the latter ... It's clear from Tasha's that having sorcery points is no longer dependent on being a sorcerer. Maybe it's a wizard who figured out how it's done; maybe it's a cleric with the abilities bestowed by their deity.

You use the Sorcery power that was born in you, to improve your spells. You are a sorcerer.

The Bastion is, at best, an idiot savant, built to take full advantage of nonstandard readings of the rules. It's why he flopped when aced with someone written to use the rules as they actually are, and it's why when the 14th-level of him tried--in the face of strong warnings--to pick a fight with a successful 14th-level party, he didn't even get a second action.

I'm curious to see what is in store for him when the current 20th-level wizard shows up. Alas, it'll probably be past my bedtime.

Where does it say in the feat that it's an inborn ability that is only now manifesting?

Hint: It doesn't. The reference to sorcerer class is only for the list of metamagic exploits, and to prevent having to re-print all the rules for using the points you get from the class.

The class is called "Metamagic Adept," nothing about sorcerer in the name.

You’ve learned how to exert your will on your spells to alter how they function:

• You learn two Metamagic options of your choice from the sorcerer class. You can use only one Metamagic option on a spell when you cast it, unless the option says otherwise. Whenever you reach a level that grants the Ability Score Improvement feature, you can replace one of these Metamagic options with another one from the sorcerer class.
• You gain 2 sorcery points to spend on Metamagic (these points are added to any sorcery points you have from another source but can be used only on Metamagic). You regain all spent sorcery points when you finish a long rest.

Note: "You learn." Not something sorcerers are noted for bothering much with. ;-)
