No Elminister in the set, that is absolutely outrageous, its a sign of utter contempt for fans and Ed Greenwood, so utterly disguisted and angry right now.
If this is true, I’m not completely surprised, because, as others have mentioned, while there is a lot more to Elminster than just his sexual escapades—and while there are a lot more in-canon sexual escapades in the Realms than just Elminster’s—nonetheless Elminster has come to represent the more “adult” elements in the Realms (“horny Gandalf” or “dirty old mage” or what have you is almost always one of the first things someone mentions when Elminster comes up in a conversation); and it’s fairly obvious why WotC would like to refocus attention away from those elements (shifting cultural attitudes and shifting player demographics, especially a much younger player base than the historical average for D&D). If Elminster is indeed nowhere to be found in this set, I would guess that this is another result (after the drow lore changes for FR announced recently) of the sensitivity consultants that we know WotC hired last year to suggest changes in their lore.

Of course, it’s still possible Elminster will be represented in the Commander cards. We’ll know for sure soon enough. But if he isn’t there, I still don’t see that as an insult to Greenwood. He created a lot of other characters and places that are present in the set.

I was really excited about this set, but will now not invest in it at all. It is such a huge slap in the face to Ed Greenwood to create a card set on the setting he created and not include Elminster.
Again, there are the Commander decks. Making Eliminster widely and easily available wouldn't be a slap in the face by any stretch.

I'm pretty sure Ed Greenwood is not offended. It's a pretty big complement to be the first D&D setting to get a core MTG card set... Ed did make all of FR, not just Elminster.

I almost find this insulting to Greenwood that he would be so easily ruffled by the exclusion of one character.

There is a commander set with this too no?

Possibly it's covered there.

So there are 4 Commander decks, each with up to 17 new cards built for that deck, so yeah, there's up to another potential 64 cards (The face cards that have already been revealed count towards the 17, so 16*4, but some decks probably share a few of these cards so more likely 56ish) ....

However, I highly doubt there will be Elminster, especially as a Planeswalker. In all the years of making new cards for Commander precons, the only time WotC has ever made new planeswalkers is when they were the actual front commander cards, and that was twice: once for the Commander 2014 and again for Commander 2018.

Also, I just think that holding back a high profile character or two makes sense, because if this set is popular (and I expect it will be), there will be a "Forgotten Realms 2" set, and having Elminster available to headline that set will be a boon.
