D&D 5E D&D Live Schedule - Unannounced Book Reveal July 16th

The October unannounced book first mentioned by WotC's Ray Winninger in June will be revealed at 3pm ET (8pm BST) on Friday. This book joins The Wild Beyond the Witchlight and Strixhaven: Curriculum of Chaos as the next three official D&D releases this year.

We know the fifth major product this year will be James Wyatt‘s as-yet unannounced project, and we know it will be coming out this year between Witchlight and Strixhaven. Wyatt co-wrote the Draconomicon for 3E. There have been two recent dragon-themed Unearthed Arcanas — dragon-themed...

What player options would you want to see? Given that tieflings, aasimar, and genasi have already appeared in 5e - bauriar and rogue modrons? I can see doing the factions along the lines of the guilds in Ravnica or the dragonmarked houses in Eberron.

For Races, reprints of Aasamir, Genesis, Githyanki and Githzerai (because they don't want to assume everyone has all of the books), and new Modron and Bauriar options, and as a Wildcard a "Planetouched" that does the 2E style unknown origin Tiefling. Throw in the Tasha's custom Lineage rules, and Planescape would be well covered.

Class options: new Sorcerer, Wizard or Cleric options seem credible?

I think Planescape Factuons would be more like the Dragon marked Houses, included but not as omnipresent as the Guilds of Ravnica.

Alright, I've dug out my aging copy of "The Planeswalker's Handbook". There's a section on 'character archetypes' that you could totally make into 5e backgrounds quite easily: 'clueless', 'knight of the post', 'cager', 'proxy-in-training', and so on. The kits on offer might be a little bland: 'planar warrior' and 'planar wizard' would lack a certain oomph as subclasses, but I could totally see 'abyssal warrior', 'floating sorcerer', and 'hinterland bandit' making it in.

In the same way that E:RftLW added dragonmarks as a PC 'one extra thing' (on top of race, class, and background), I'd expect faction membership to fall into that slot.

It wouldn't surprise me if it is an emergent design feature of a manageable amount of information: Theros has 15 gods who are absolutely central to the Setting, nearly the same number.

I'd like to see a playable Slaad, but it seems weird to consider a creature that turns away from pure chaos to be "going rogue". I've been thinking Chaste Slaad, since I imagine them taking an oath of "celibacy", like Rev Bem from Andromeda.

I'll not only say it's probable, but that it is probably the Chris Perkins Setting project that Winninger has spoken about.

It's either that or Spelljammer.
