I’m sorry but the the Iron Cross out side the use of a German military award IS a Nazi symbol.
I mean why believe someone who is jewish?

The one on that page has the Swastika in it.

From that page, one might also wonder if anyone using the ASL symbol for 9 is flashing something white power, for example. Apparently the ADL says context matters.

We had a tense few minutes at a scout camp out a few years ago where the group of adults in the camp site next to us had a ton of nordic/viking/whatnot symbols. After a few tense moments we googled the name of the group from one of the banners and the home page for that group decried how all of their symbols had been co-opted by racists and how they kicked out anyone who thought that way. Anyway, I can certainly understand how using symbols is a balance between what the shower means, what they claim to mean, and what others will think of them.

Are you aware that the link you posted with designated hate symbols actually stipulates that it is the specific iron cross of the third Reik era… with the swastika that they have designated a hate symbol.

You don’t get to broaden that to anything you think appropriate. if anything, the exception proves the rule, that it isn’t a hate symbol otherwise they just would have designated an iron cross.

You'll note that the list, that includes apparently the pitbull dogs, features the Iron Cross as used by the Nazi regime (with the inclusion of a swastika inside) which is a very significantly different design from the iron crosses designs used before and after. You also failed to mention that it didn't exist as a decoration before 2007 nont because it was "problematic" but because, as a war-time decoration, it couldn't be awarded in peace time, so there was no need for it until the Bunderswehr started to take part into foreign military operations in 2006. And it's not a "new design", it's the return to the original design (an iron cross), not the Nazi one (with the swastika inside). It wasn't really seen as problematic since, from the end of WWII, people were allowed to wear the Iron Cross, using the model predating the Nazi one (with oak leaves) if they were awarded it without association with the Nazi regime. Context matter and being offended by someone displaying an Iron Cross as a nazi symbol, with intent of promoting Nazi ideals, is legitimate, but there is no evidence that the painting was made extoll the Nazi regime. It was misunderstood, but not an admission to being a white supremacist.

Specificity the text from the anti defamation league says this.

Iron Cross

The Iron Cross, a famous German military medal, became a common white supremacist symbol after World War II, though today it is used in many non-racist/extremist situations and cannot be assumed to be used as a hate symbol without other contextual clues.

The actual image is just an example, and not meant to be the view that every iron cross as a hate symbol looks exactly like it. Crypto racists use an iron cross with out a swastika too.
