Marvel Multiverse RPG Alternate Covers

Marvel has revealed some alternate covers for its upcoming Marvel Multiverse RPG (written by Matt Forbeck). The new covers are by Peach Momoko and Logan Lubera, and the standard cover is by Iban Coello.

The game uses a new "D616" system and will be released next year with a playtest book. If you have a 3D6 mechanic based on having positive/negative success dice and a D6 Effect dice (like In Nomine crossed with Feng Shui), then you could yield a 6-1-6 as the maximum result. That is:

(D6-D6) + D6 = 11 (max score)

The full range would be -4 to 11 if read this way, although the three dice could be read in different ways - simply having a success range of -5 to +5, with the effect dice being read separately, or having the highest success die minus the lowest success die, giving a range of 0-5 (plus effect dice rolled separately). You would need to ensure that the dice are all different colours.

It would be nice if that is how it works... but somehow, I'm expecting less elegant.

As for the cover art... meh. I don't like it, but it's not horrible. It's not the standard I expect from Marvel, tho'.

Oh, man. When I saw this my first thought was that they were channeling the 1990s by releasing multiple versions of the game with variant covers.

Not just the 90s, the variant cover is still used a lot today.

The covers are just for the playtest book, not the final version. And most superhero rpg books have covers and art on about the same level as these.

Most superhero rpg books don't come out directly from Marvel. Which is Disney.

The majority of rpg publishers have an art budget that's not even a blink in the eye of Marvel!

For the final versions I'd use actual comic covers that proved to be fan favorites.

Are you kidding? This is not a parnertship work, is Marvel itself publishing its own TTRPG. The can add all art they wanted.

So rolling 6 - 1 - 6, or "13" is a good thing? First time that I have seen them consider 13 as good luck. I will be interested to see how this game shapes up.
