Marvel Multiverse RPG Alternate Covers

Marvel has revealed some alternate covers for its upcoming Marvel Multiverse RPG (written by Matt Forbeck). The new covers are by Peach Momoko and Logan Lubera, and the standard cover is by Iban Coello.

The game uses a new "D616" system and will be released next year with a playtest book. "“… the all-new D616 System, an accessible and easy-to-learn system for newcomers to tabletop RPGs and a natural evolution for those familiar with the most popular tabletop role-playing games on the market. Use Might, Agility, Resilience, Vigilance, Ego, and Logic to win the day, and discover your true abilities as you face impossible odds!”

I have a feeling Gambit characters would be really, really good at this game.

Also, forget d616. Where's the d666 game? Has this been overlooked?

Post script, am I seeing a familial resemblance between Hulk and the Cap'n? I wonder if the book's fluff explores this possibility.

Hobbit on Quest (he/him)
I wonder if Logan Lubera is a fan of Frank Robbins and his work on The Invaders. Captain Marvel in that cover has a Robbins vibe.

Well, that was fun

We’ve known all that since the original announcement. :)

... Okay, there is a thing people often do when asked to provide several of something. Offer one good one, the one they want to see used, and the others made to be "not right" for the project. See that above? Somebody did that.

I'm not saying they're bad art, I'm saying the other two are unbrandable for a cover piece.

My opinion, mind you. Feel free to have your own.

No, we had no clue which dice would be used until this specifically said 3d6, seeing as how the original announcement thread had lots of people speculating on if a d16 would somehow be part of the new system. And until now, we did not know that rolling specifically a 6-1-6 on the three dice would be something special.

I don't remember if they said it was a system with levels but it was to be close to d20 system. The challengue rating or power level is very important in a superheroes RPG because some enemies can be too dangerous of weak for the PCs. For example a sentinel, the mutant-hunter robot, could be a nightmare for a classic street vigilante or a martial artist, but walking dartboards for one-man-army with the right weapons. We can see that in the videogames where some characters are "nerferd" for the gameplay, and more when they are PvP. Here the munchkins can be very dangerous if they want to use superpowers + high-tech gadgets.

Other point: Even with supertrenght you can't move buildings because it would be a lot of presussre in too concentrated points. It would as if you try to lift a cake with the points of your fingers. These will sink within the mass.

That turns out to be a plot point in a Fantastic Four story from the 80s. When Gladiator (essentially the same powers as Superman, enforcer for the Shi'ar empire) lifts a building by one corner, Mr Fantastic realizes that that shouldn't work so his powers must have a psionic component, which leads the FF to be able to defeat him through trickery and making him lose confidence in himself.

This is the D666 game (it say's you need 3 6 sided dice to play), but of course they can't say "Fantastic things will happen when you roll a 6 on all 3 dice" because then players would be be cheering for a "666 result". So you need 2 6's and a 1 instead.

The whole Earth-616 as the main Marvel Universe came about because Alan Moore tried to name it Earth-666 and marvel made him change it. (I could have small details wrong.)
