Also, isn't is funny D&D releases a magic school oriented adventure path after Paizo published Strength of Thousands this year?

For those who don't follow Pathfinder : adventure paths #169 to #174, Strength of Thousands, place the players in the role of students at the Magaambya magic academy. Including material for interactions with other students, graduating, becoming teachers...
it is far more likely that Paizo was inspired by the multi-year process that Wizards took to create Strixhaven for Magic than it is for WotC to be reverse inspired by the Paizo path because there aren't time travelers yet

Your point about Strixhaven is very good. For the publication part, it would not require time travel, since Strength of Thousands was announced well before the first volume was published but it would make for quite an efficient production cycle for the Wizard's book.

Give me Curse of Strahd over Van Rics. Guide to Ravenloft any day.
From the page count, it certainly does feel a lot more in the Curse of Strahd vein of things. Just with a somewhat thicker player facing section because you're intended to make a PC who's an integrated part of Strixhaven instead of a freshly kidnapped victim of the Mists. And this does explain the developer comments hinting about this not being a M:tG world guide like Ravnica and Theros but a "matriculate through magic university" campaign that you can insert into Eberron or the Forgotten Realms or your original home brew.

None of which bad, but it does influence how likely my non-DM self is to buy the book, and I wish they'd made it a little clearer in the promotional material.

True cause this book was more than likely started before that piece of the adventure path, maybe. Might have been close though. It’s not the only coincidence like this, and frankly I actually kinda like the idea of two top tier synergies to “borrow” from, especially if it generates miniatures and terrain.

I was under the impression this was an adventure first and foremost. Seems to be set up close to past adventures. Bulk of the book is adventure with dedicated section about the area the adventure takes place in. It's an interesting concept for an adventure. I feel like my kids would like this. Gonna need to flip through it in person though.
On DnDBeyond, it’s listed as a sourcebook, not an adventure. I think most of us knew the adventure was a large part, but I guess I thought it would be more half and half, with the bestiary being part of the adventure half. Maybe when I see the book, I’ll feel differently, but based on the table of contents, it just doesn’t seem like there’s enough material to run multiple campaigns or even a campaign past 10th level.
