Nah. He had fallen down or was waking up or something. He didn't see it because of fog of war.Metamagic subtle spell?
This is spot on, and it's what I answered, but there are things it doesn't cover very well. The flaming pine cones vs. wargs aren't represented too well by flamestrike, it's more like weak cantrip damage (maybe he gets it from Narya, the ring of fire, his OP magic item).Gandalf is a Dexterity Paladin.

Celestial Warlock - Pact of the Blade (and Staff).
Doesn't he also cast darkness there?[...] In the Hobbit when the dwarves are captured by the goblins(orcs). There is a flash like lightning and the smell of ozone and several goblins fall dead. He does that twice at least, maybe three times. I can't remember for sure.
I don't think so, but I'm not at all positive. I THINK it just went dark for some reason, like maybe the goblins put out the torches or something.Doesn't he also cast darkness there?
We don't actually know if he used magic or sword to beat the Balrog. The movie took liberties.Fighting the balrog is standard radiant Paladin smites. Plus some radiant spells.
