D&D 5E Death clerics

It's best as a melee cleric using spells and medium armor. Toll the dead works fine in melee.

Default array 16 wisdom, 14 dex and con. Use toll the dead or a rapier.

Note it can "smite" with inflict wounds or even vampiric touch.

If Tasha's is being used swap the level 8 ability for extra cantrip damage.

Spiritual guardians+ toll the dead works. Melee strength cleric is a trap unless you roll scores and roll well.

Zard:

I want to play a fat yet gristly cleric that grapples at times.

I think it’s: A. Creepy to hold someone in area of effect spiritual guardians and B. My vision of a stout fat/strong guy calls for it.

I appreciate the suggestion however! I am looking at keeping my options open—-actual weapons and spells though numerically a little less.

If arcana, going with gfb/bb spiritual weapon and spiritual guardians when able.

I had a wild idea about taking fey touched at 4 and teleporting up to enemy spellcasters and grappling, smacking etc.

I want this cleric to be very physical and intimidating at times. I was thinking one part dune’s far duke and one part misunderstood semi heroic priest. A dark friar tuck?

I sometimes just get a visual image and build around it.

With get touched thought about good ol hex to lean into Necrotic damage.

But I am not set yet even on domain…

My wife plays a lot of clerics and yeah we know about the arcana one. We use the default array. The strength based cleric needs either rolled stats or gauntlets of ogre power to work.

Melee clerics are to MAD. Melee as in strength based. Idk if you're rolling stats but you need something like 14,15,16 minimum (14, 16,16) as your best 3 stats to not suck and due to ASI the problem is later on you have to choose between buffing wisdom or strength.

So it's viable the choke points your ability scores.

Taking heavily armored and say fey touched, I should have 16 str, con and wisdom by 4th with point but. Or swap fey touched for resilient.

I am playing a fat brawler so 8 dex (can dump with heavy armor without lower ac) and personality issues re: urchin background (no not optimized!) for chr of 8 and 10 int.

Level 8 I could have a 16 in strength and con with an 18 wisdom. If not having a 20 in wisdom at level 8 is a game breaker, we are probably in different sorts of games, which is fine.

I know I can crunch number and sit back and sling spells only but everyone I know who does that with warlock gets bored.

Blade pact for me all the way!

No you don't need a 20 for this. 18/18 works fine along with 14 con.

Problem is you kinda need warcaster or proficiency in con to keep up spiritual guardians.

If you're going melee cleric it's all about spiritual guardians can nice it's available.

I realize the benefits of warcaster but would probably pick resilient con.

I am in love with half feats and con bonuses!
