Interesting! I preordered this book ages ago, but when I click on the book link in the Sources dropdown, it still just takes me to the preorder page.

I preordered it too, but I think I understand the distinction now. The dropdown menu only has "Journeys through the Radiant Citadel" listed, which goes to the preorder page because it's meant to link to the full book.

But if you click the "View All" button, that page has a "The Radiant Citadel" listing under "Adventures" that links to the preview chapter in question.

So it's an issue with the Dropdown menu - doesn't seem to list "The Vecna Dossier" there either...

EDIT: And I see you and J.Quondam already worked that much out... Need to remember to read the whole post before responding.

It may be that minor free stuff like this are only going to show up on this expanded page, and not on the main menu, just to keep the latter from being more cluttered than it already is. Granted, there's other past free stuff already on the main page. One way or the other, they need to choose where free stuff is going to go!

Vecna is the same. The issue is with the top-level menu on D&D Beyond. It's getting very cluttered anyway, it needs a revamp.

Mysterious fortress city crafted by absent elders and inhabited by a melting pot of different cultures, with something horrible lurking just beyond the horizon. You assume the society is as benevolent as it appears, but maybe there’s something else going on? A lot more interesting than I had previously thought!

I think it's indirect. The writing style is very reminiscent of Babylon 5, and Mass Effect also "borrowed" from that source.

Yes, I suspect it is mining that same vein of fiction rather than actively copying or inspired by it. It doesn’t feel quite as political or ‘grubby’ as Babylon 5, in my mind, but it certainly could be taken in that direction.

More in the Mythic aspects, rather than the political. The Radiant Citadel is already independent, so is doesn't need to break away from a totalitarian government. But if you compare the writing to the opening narrations (and descriptions of "why we need to steel Babylon 4" ) It sounds like the Radiant Citadel author is channelling JMS. E.g. "scintillating beacon" "shining beacon".

Every named NPC has Personality Traits, Ideals, Bonds, and Flaws.

I love that they have this shorthand for personality. It's a much better guide than alignment and it makes it likely that Wizards isn't abandoning this system

I love that is has both alignment and personality traits. Makes running NPCs much easier.
