The Dominate Monster play is a pretty nasty one from Vecna, though a spellcaster with a wisdom save as low as mine might be rare its not unheard of (and for fighter types it would be more common), but with Vecna's ability "see stats", it lets him always target someone how who will autofail their save. That's a big deal, as it means the advantage on the save for being in combat and the save every round are rendered moot. Seems a solid opening move for Vecna in the future, effectively turning a 4 v 1 into a 3 v 2.
Actually rereading the adventure, it looks like Vecna does not know "abilities", just spells and such. So he wouldn't necessarily know Invulnar has a low wisdom save. Still, not uncommon for a caster to open up a wisdom save against a lot of fighter types to swing things around.

Just confirming where Vecna was when he cast the dominate. If it was within 60 ft of invulnar I’ll coubterspell.
The reason why Vecna did his Readied Action shenanigans (which lost him his multiattack) was so that he wasn't within your line of sight when he cast the spell, only when he released it, to prevent counterspelling.

It's a tactic that was used against him during the first combat.

Behind the pillar. You could not see him when he cast so no Counterspell. This is why he used his reaction to release the spell.

Also point of order, Vecna can only give me a general command right now, such as “kill the shader-Kai”. It takes an action to give me exact commands like what spells to use and to use a combo.
Yeah, I know, I was just playing up the dialogue. :D

Honestly, I was going to issue your order "Dominate the other dragonborn!", who would likely have failed his save... but they just seemed too cruel if it worked. ;)

It is arguably his most powerful move IMO depending on who is in the fight. FWIW, Broodhuz has +1, so would auto-fail also, but he wanted to stop your persistent Chill Touch from annoying him further. 🤷‍♂️

I'll dash-charge Vecna either way. Sorry for the wait, but it was like 4am for me when you tagged me! I'm on ENWorld a LOT, but maybe not THAT often!
Got it! Will run your turn now and then @Stalker0 will "Kill the Shadar-Kai!" (general order, happy? ;) ).

Invulnar looks back to the Shadar-Kai with cold, dead eyes, "yes master".

(I double checked because its been awhile since I used dominate, and it does look like I have to "do my best" to carry out the order, so I don't get to hold back too much :( )

Invulnar will fire an empowered sun beam, and use a quickened 6th level magic missile (empowered as well). I will however move 30 ft closer to vecna (as long as I can keep sight with the Shadar-Kai, I will try to stay in range of the lich....my one bit of rebellion!)

Broodhuz's Turn:

Broodhuz dashes (50 of 80 feet) across the cracked ebony flagstones, his claws splintering fragments with each pounding stride!

Swinging his burning greatsword with wild rage, Broodhuz HITS (16,8+10=26 vs AC 18), dealing 16 slashing damage and 2 fire damage, for a total of 18 damage!

Vecna auto-succeeds on DC 10 Concentration check to retain Dominate Monster.

Vecna uses Fell Rebuke (reaction #2), dealing 16 necrotic damage to Broodhuz, and teleports 30 feet away.

Broodhuz uses his remaining 30 speed to move next to Venca.

Venca sneers at the annoying barbarian, "Don't worry, young one, you will die soon enough" and laughs eerily.

Got it.

(Dominated) Invulnar's Turn:

Invulnar fires an empowered blazing subbeam of light from his hand at Morcolt, he fails his save (8+8=16 vs DC 18) so spends his last Luck Point to reroll the save and succeeds! (16+8=24), so takes just 8 radiant damage.

Broodhuz uses spirit shield (reaction) to prevent the damage (13)!

@FitzTheRuke if you want to deal the 8 force damage to Invulnar, let me know!

@Stalker0 you said you want MM at 6th, but 6th was your Sunbeam, so I am bumping it to your 7th level slot. If you want me to change that let me know! Also, if you want to move at all, I need to know and thanks!

UPDATE: Moved Invulnar south 30 feet (see post #651).

Invulnar casts a quicked, empowered (3 sp, 7 remaining I think?) magic missile at Morcolt. The 9 bolts pepper him for 19 force damage (half of 39, empowered rerolled 4 dice for +6 over the original 33 damage).

Morcolt's Turn:

Morcolt takes 6 necrotic damage (half 12) from Afterthought, but succeeds on the DC 20 CON save (17+8) to remove its effect.

Morcolt moves 20 feet closer to Vecna.

He fires his pact longbow, but misses (6+11=17 vs AC 20).

He shoots again and HITS (16+11=27 vs AC 20), dealing 10 piercing damage plus 1 necrotic (half 2) plus 10 radiant damage, for a total of 21 damage! Vecna cannot regain any hit points until the start of Morcolt's next turn.

Vecna auto-succeeds on DC 10 Concentration check to retain Dominate Monster.

Vecna uses Fell Rebuke (reaction #3) for only 4 necrotic damage (half 8) to Morcolt and teleports northeast behind the pillar.

Morcolt moves another 10 feet forward, just barely spotting Venca and shoots a mote of light (Crown of Stars bonus action) at Venca, but it misses (12+7 vs AC 23), hitting the pillar instead!

With a mix of desperation and foreboding, Morcolt looks at Broodhuz, "We have shared many fine adventures, my friend. I have done all I can and he cannot heal himself, but I fear this is the end for me... I will see you in another life, but now it is up to you!"

I may have missed something, but what's going on with Morcolt? I'm assuming that the necrotic damage is Life Drinker, does he only have a +2 Cha? And where is the radiant damage from/why did he apply a Chill Touch-style effect with his pact-bow?
