Unless she does it more than once in the movie, I'm going to assume that she said she could do it, and the DM didn't want to interrupt the game to look up whether it was legal. Afterwards, they had a talk and the player agreed not to do it again.
 





In addition to owlbears, I’d allow certain other monstrosites like griffons and rocs. But not stuff with a magical or supernatural attack like a basilisk. Each creat Is evaluated as it is requested.
Yep. If it is basically a thing that can't do anything real animals couldn't, it is probably fine. Dinosaurs are pretty damn fantastical too, they just happened to be real.
