It’s not that I don’t see any similarity. It’s just hilariously absurd to think the film makers needed to “check with CR” about the character. “Oh hey, our Druid is a hot ginger tiefling.” “Okay?” “Idk someone thought I should check with you for some reason.” “Did they tell you to check with us about having a male, womanizing, bard that’s older than the rest of the group, and is generally a shady guy?”

Like what?

Come on. It’s a topic in several places because people overthink things and look for things to point at and speculatively armchair lawyer at. 🤷‍♂️
Again, a lot of people see it. You're not one of them.
Also she acts nothing like Keyleth. We have seen no awkwardness, lack of confidence, nervous rambling, or like…anything I’d associate with Keyleth that remotely stands out? And Keyleth isn’t a deadpan serious person who asks incisive and disarming questions.
We've seen only a few seconds of her speaking, and those involved her questioning what was going on. So....[/QUOTE]

LOL Again, I see what you’re talking about. I disagree as to its supposed significance.

Are you kidding? How on earth is that more of a similarity than…literally any character with her place in the ensemble cast story?

And I can’t even think of a single instance of Keyleth acting anything like that. When did she deadpan challenge anyones place in the group? She didn’t even act like that with Derrington. Keyleth is not deadpan and dry. She’s basically the polar opposite of that.

First, whether other characters have some personality traits in common with Vox Machina characters isn't relevant by itself - we're talkinag bout Doric and Keyleth. And I don't see any other character we've been introduced to being compared to another Vox Machina character because no other character matches the physical features, color scheme and (so far) behavior of Vox Machina. Is Elgin Scanlon? Is Holga Gorg? Is Xenk ... I don't even know where to compare Xenk. Is Simon Tiberius? No, they're very far apart.

A lot of people see it. You, by your own vehement admission, see it. You're just adamant that the thing you laugh about how well you can see ... doesn't have any significance? It is ridiculous to the point of laughing that I implied you can't see it ... but you think it isn't ... obvious enough ... to be significant.

Yeah.

You cannot possibly lack knowledge of what a comparative example is.

I said that the comparative example would be just as absurd, I made no claim that anyone was doing what I described as an absurd example. 🤷‍♂️
A lot of people see it.
Seeing it doesn’t mean it matters.

Yeah.
You seem, here, to think that being able to see what others are talking about means I should automatically agree that what they’re seeing is significant. That would be a very weird position, so I hope you can clarify.

You also have indicated multiple times that you think that the simple fact that multiple people are talking about an idea means that said idea isn’t ridiculous. That is not the case.

Maybe you forgot how this started? I replied to the claim that it behooved the film makers to have consulted with CR because they also had a hot ginger Druid. One person at some point even tried to use them both wearing green, like the vast majority of Druids, as “proof” that they were so similar as to constitute a real risk of IP infringement claim.

The question is, as I see it, how on earth can you not see the absurdity of this idea that is floating around.

And that was in response to people having noted far more similarity than hot, red headed (side note: ginger is offensive to some people) druid.

I guess you believe that your opinion that it can't be a concern overrides a wide spectrum of people with a different belief. Fair enough. Done.

Which is irrelevant, because the similarities are not enough for there to be any risk involved. Most of the similarities are common to either Druids and other nature magic users, female action movie characters, or characters who join the team late and are socially outside the core group’s normal circles. In fact, almost every similarity.

The horns aren’t even a similarity! It’s like claiming that any hat-wearing characters are similar because of their hat, even though they are a ball cap and a fedora!

Nothing I’ve said remotely indicates that.

Why is this an argument? If Critical Role has an issue with the Doric character infringing on their IP rights, they will file a cease and desist or negotiate a settlement with Paramount. Considering the amount of press surrounding Sophia Lillis being an avid player of D&D and a devoted fan of Critical Role and The Adventure Zone, I do not think this is going to blow up into anything. I think they, John and Jonathan, even acknowledged Critical Role as being an influence in the Hall H panel.

A lot of people see it. You, by your own vehement admission, see it.
They see it because their only experience of D&D is Critical Role. It's easy to see things that aren't there, like the Man in the Moon.

But anyone who isn't ignorant of D&D imagery pre-Critical Role knows it nonsense.
This is complete nonsense, from all directions. Doric is sassy. Keyleth's defining characteristic is insecurity and lack of self-confidence. They are nothing alike. Are you able to detect personality beyond age, gender and hair colour?
If Critical Role has an issue with the Doric character infringing on their IP rights, they will file a cease and desist or negotiate a settlement with Paramount.
They wouldn't, because Mercer isn't nuTSR, and wouldn't file a suit he knows would be laughed out of court.
