Spelljammer The Forgotten Realms eats Spelljammer before it even finishes digesting Radiant Citadel!

Since when has FR not incorporated everything D&D? It's absolutely the kitchen sink setting. Half of the gods started out somewhere else. Most of the bigger races (drow anyone) started out somewhere else. Adventures, locations, you name it, it gets plonked down in Forgotten Realms somewhere.

What's the problem? It's ONE setting. If you want a more restrictive setting, don't run Forgotten Realms. Seems pretty easy to me. There are fifteen different more restrictive settings out there and more arriving every day. So, what's the issue that this one setting is the kitchen sink?

I mean, it started out as an inclusive fan fiction playground, accidentally perfect for a D&D smorgasbord.

Spelljammer has had ports in realmspace. More importantly, the UA races are close enough to print to be usable? Thats actually interesting.

I'm curious what kind of changes did they make to these races? Did some folks complain the Astral Elves were too weak? And that the Giff were too melee focused and didn't get much?

I think some folks complained the Thrikreen's extra arms not doing much.

I don't really remember anything else.

No, WotC always maintained that the D&D multiverse is the default Setting, and time has borne that out in practice.
Have they? They definitely were calling it so in 2020; I honestly don’t recall prior to that. Then again, pre-pandemic, I had a lot less time to ramble on about RPGs on the internet.

They may have made close to none.

Yup, all the way back to 2014. Admittedly, at the time it was "look, I know the two Adventures this year were nominally in the GR, but the multiverse is the Setting, and we qte trying to figure out how we want to expand on that," and it did take them 4 years to start with Ravnica and Eberron. But what they have been doing de facto since 2019 is what they have claimed to be the goal de jure since 2014.

Canonically, the Rock of Bral was in Realmspace. Kara-Tur and the island of Wa had spelljammers, there was trade between the Arcane and Waterdeep/Skullport, and the Elven Space Navy had a base at Evermeet. Plus, Halruuan skyships would make great spelljammers. So it's a natural fit really, to have Spelljammer games start in Realmspace, as opposed to a less traveled region.

Even if I'd like to see more of the Realms than the Sword Coast...

And @Jer Here's some bits from a 2015 conversation where Crawford was inviting that the Forgotten Realms is not the default setting. What he said back then is consistent with what happened...in time. And matches the current official line, even though the books out or announced at this time were just Princes of thr Apocalypse and the Tyranny of Drahons stuff.

So what am here is all the settings are now apart of the Forgotten Realms, which has devoured them all so the whole D&D multiverse is the Forgotten Realms. 🤣😂😈
