I just see no value in using an old setting they're going to have to major changes to in order for it to sit well with the new players they care about when they can build a new setting that does exactly what they want and not have to worry about any of that. 4e did it, and even people who didn't like the game seemed to be cool with Nentil Vale.
Brand recognition.

So if you want the old context, you already have it. The only change you'd have to make is if you're playing with people who don't know the old setting.
Yeah, there is that, or I just skip the book because if too much of the context changes, it's no longer the setting that was the foundation for those stories.

Thats where Im at. If you loved Ferraris and finally have the chance to buy one but its only the body thats the same while the engine and interior etc are all torn out and replaced with "new and better" chevy and dodge parts. Sure it looks like a Ferrari but its really not. Its something different wearing its skin.

From what I’m reading here, I’m not a fan of many of these changes. Fortunately I have always been a fan of the Dragonlance trilogy of books but was never very interested in playing D&D in a Dragonlance setting, so all these changes can be happily ignored.

I still love those first three books - in fact I think I might reread them again :)
